BLOG: Ohio State Football Clinic…Top 10 List of What This Experience Is All About

A cuple weekends ago, I had the pleasure to attend β€œTHE” Ohio State Football clinic with Coach Stu Lang from Guelph, Tony Mandalfino and Randy Hoffner from the Burlington Stampeders.

HERE IS A TOP 10 LIST OF WHAT OUR EXPERIENCE WAS ALL ABOUT:

1)Β Now I know why Ohio state hired Urban Meyer- Great leader for his team…recognizes his strengths and weaknesses and hires the right people to fill in the gaps

2)Β OSU did a great job of recognizing the Great state of Ohio football with many tributes and awards to the great coaches and schools throughout the state. OSU gets it…recognize and appreciate who has helped your school be in the top 10!

3)Β Team comes out in helmets only…I was expecting a walk through…NO WAY!Β Β  Unreal tempo to practice- players flying around at full speed- coaches teaching and not just yelling at players

4)Β Mike Pettine- ad coach of Cleveland Browns wasn’t talking about x’s and o’s; but rather how he needs to change the losing culture in Cleveland to a winning one.

5)Β The one thing that stuck in my mind from Coach Pettine’s talk. β€œNever be afraid to hire someone smarter then you, they will make you better butΒ I still have the last word”

6)Β O-line coach for OSU makes the game simple…instead of calling a play 24 trap- names it after a food- like β€œTaco right” Says O-linemen relate to food better than anyone!

7)Β Speaking of food- great barbeque dinner the first night there- thought I was in the south!

8)Β The players are freaks in size and athletic ability…..genetics play a huge part!

9)Β REPS REPS REPS!Β  I can’t say anything else- 90 minute practice non-stop- REPS REPS REPS…have I emphasized this enough?

10)Β Unfortunately I don’t see Canadian football really closing the gap as the Genetic make-up and US population base is so big…OSU is able to find the best of the best.Β  Don’t get me wrong, there are some players who could play down there but we still need a lot of work…it’s just a culture that I wish we in Canada could create

BONUS– I found out some guys can really snore
