Brantford Bisons flag football games for charity huge success

The recently held charity football games between the Brantford Bisons and the Brantford Youth Flag Football Association was a huge success and garnered $500.00 for the Brant Food For Thought non-profit organization.

The games, called the Brant Food For Thought Bowl, showcased the Pee Wee aged players in the first game, while the second match saw Junior Varsity aged players matching their skills against each other. Over 200 fans watched the action and donated generously to the cause.

In the Pee Wee game, the Bisons beat Flag 35-7 with touchdowns from Seth Cooke, two from Justin Riley, along with two from Dylan Szczur. Aiden Kadzioka carried in the ball for the Flag Football score.

The Junior Varsity game finished with a 39-6 Bisons win. Two touchdowns were from Alex McClure, along with Wayde Thorne, Jamal Chase, Ryan Isenor and Tyler Dewaele. Mitch Scott kicked a field goal. A touchdown for Flag Football came from Lyssa Kelly.

Although the players had a lot of fun and the Bisons won both games, the real winner was the Brant Food For Thought organization who will now receive a cheque for $500.00 from the day’s events. This amount will go a long way in providing nutritious meals for elementary and secondary students in the Brant County.

“This was a great event to hold in our community. Our organization is already looking forward to next year when it will be even bigger,” stated Dan Davis, President of the Brantford Youth Flag Football Association.

“Football teaches skills to the players, but it also develops character. What I like about today’s event is the fact that all of these young athletes volunteered to participate in these games. They didn’t have to be here. They could have been at the beach or hanging out with their friends during a hot summer day. Instead, they chose to spend time helping a charity. That to me is great character,” commented Brad Ward, president of Bisons Football.

The Brant Food For Thought Bowl winners received a trophy donated by Levac’s that will be showcased by the respective winning organization for the year until Brant Food For Thought Bowl II is played in 2014.
