QB Will finch (PICTURE), playing up an age level this season, was spectacular for the stampeders and led them to a 47 to 29 victory over the twin city predators.

NOTE: OFC Varsity division is the only 3 down summer league in ontario

The teams felt one another out early in the game with the first 3 drives ending in punts. It was not until the stampeders second possession that they started to put things together. On the second play of the drive finch hooked up #89 Brett Blaszko who took the ball down to the predator 8 yard line. Two plays later #85 Ian Stewart took an under route to the house to put the stamps up 7 to 0 at 2:19 of 1st quarter.
The predators still did not get their offense going and had to punt back to the stamps on the next drive. Burlington put together a great drive to end the first quarter and start the second quarter. The stamps went ahead 14 to 0 when #32 Ryan DiRisio bulled his way in the end zone from 3 yards out.
The predators finally got on the board and it took a third down play to do it. The predators faced a 3rd and 3 and decided to go for it on the stampeder 43 yard line. Instead of a getting just a first down running back #32 Jacob Taylor sprinted to the end zone making the score 14 to 7.
The stamps took the momentum right back on the ensuing kick off when #16, Ashton Beaudry returned it 46 yards to the predator 54 yard line. And finch continued his great play when he hooked up with #9 Jake Hong a few plays later on a 38 yard touchdown pass to make the score 21 to 7 at 5:16 of the 2nd quarter.
The predators again waited until 3rd down to make something happen. This time it was their punt team that scrimmaged the ball 3rd and 9 from their own 43 yard line and turned a fake into a run to the stampeder 26 yard line (after a horse collar penalty was applied). The predators got the ball to 10 yard line, first and goal, but the stamps defense came up big and the preds had to settle for a field goal at the 1:50 mark of the second quarter.
The predators actually got the ball back and drove the ball deep into burlington territory but again the defense came up big when #26 Randy Williams intercepted his first of two red zone interceptions. The predators forced the stampeders to a 2 and out and the stampeders decided to concede a safety with 16 seconds remaining in the half. 21 to 12 half time score

Finch continued where he left off in the first half driving his team down to the 5 yard line then calling his own number on a 5 yard naked bootleg touchdown. The predators managed a 41 yard field goal in the third quarter by Ronnie ‘donnie’ pfeffer. Pfeffer was just short on an attempted 46 yard field goal before the end of the quarter. 28 to 15 3rd quarter score

Early in the fourth quarter Finch threw a beautiful corner route pass to Stewart to put the stamps up 35 to 15. Not long after the predators conceded a safety to go down 37 to 15. The predators did not give up and scored two more touchdowns one by Mark Baxter and converted a 2 point play by #10 Jason Blondeau and another with 22 seconds to go. But the day was a stampeder one and the stamps held on to beat the predators 37 to 30 and claim the OFC varsity championship crown.
