The Cowboys scored three touchdowns, one of which came via special teams.Ā  Derek Spence had the lone touchdown reception on the night, while Quinn Leblanc scored the only rushing td.Ā  Keanno Bentor had a good night, returning a punt for a touchdown and intercepting a pass on defence.Ā  The Northern Raiders just couldnā€™t seem to get anything going on offence.

Colts vs. Stamps

Result:Ā Ā Ā  Colts 22 ā€“ Stamps 14

This was the closest game of the night, but the Colts kept control and came out on top in the end.Ā  Quarterback Ryan Karl hit Austin Hartley twice for touchdowns, and Justin Sulzle had the Colts lone rushing score.Ā  The Stamps only offensive score came from RB Justin Keys along the ground.Ā  Their other touchdown came when Trent Joseph capitalized on a Colts fumble and took it in for the score.

Prairie Fire vs. Hilltoppers

Result:Ā  Prairie Fire 7 ā€“ Hilltoppers 34

The Prairie Fire had their welcoming to the league game against the Hilltoppers on Thursday night.Ā  Needless to say, it did not go as well as they would have liked.Ā  The Hilltoppers looked strong on both sides of the ball and were led by Quarterback Colby Brewster.Ā  Colby threw for three touchdowns on the night, two of which were caught by Spencer Janke.Ā  RB Tyler Chow had a good day on the ground, scoring once on the night.Ā  The Fireā€™s lone touchdown came when QB Scott Pearson hit Ashton Hall for a long catch and run of over seventy yards.

Mavericks vs. Broncos

Result:Ā  Mavericks 38 ā€“ Broncos 21

Overall the Mavericks showed off a lot of skill in this game, but they started off a little slow.Ā  The Broncos brought a lot of size to the game and did well, competing with the Mavericks for the majority of the game.Ā  In the end the Mavericks were led by strong Quarterback play from Boston Rowe and a solid performance from RB Hugh Jones.Ā  The Broncos QB Braeden-Bailey Wasdel showed off some skill with one throwing touchdown as well as a rushing touchdown of his own.

Falcons vs. Wildcats

Result:Ā Ā  Falcons 48 ā€“ Wildcats 23

This game may have been the biggest surprise of the week.Ā  The Falcons came out of the gates swinging and showed some real strength in the game against the Cats.Ā  Falcons QB Chris Merchant looked strong, with one passing touchdown and three rushing he really established the Falcons as an offensive threat.Ā  RB Noah Muruve also contributed two rushing touchdowns for the Falcons.Ā  On defence the Falcons were able to keep the Wildcats offence at bay.Ā  The Falcons intercepted two of QB Ben Kopcynskiā€™s passes and were able to handle most of the Wildcats running attempts.Ā  That being said Kopcynski was still able to throw for two touchdowns on the night.Ā  The other Wildcat touchdown came off of a Falcon fumble that was recovered by Misha Drury.

Overview:

Who looked strong: The first week of Midget football showed some interesting developments.Ā  The Mavericks, who many consider a favourite, were slow to start and had some difficulties.Ā  That being said the level of talent was obvious and they still looked strong.Ā  The Bulldogs offence looked strong and if the defence keeps up with them, this could be another very good year. The Colts, who are a younger team this year, showed some offensive firepower and could be strong once again.Ā  The Cowboys front seven on defence was stout to say the least, and this could make them a tough opponent for anyone.Ā  All of that being said the Hilltoppers looked very good.Ā  They were able to move the ball well on offence as well as shut down their opponent on defence.Ā  All in all, it is only the first week and it is way too early to make any predictions, but the Hilltoppers look to be a favourite once again.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
