Calgary Spring League Game of the Week: Tale of different stories for Hilltoppers, Lions

Tonight at Stampeder Field, it will be a tale of two different stories.

When the Calgary Hilltoppers and Cochrane Lions tangle in the Calgary Area Midget Football Association (CAMFA), one team is hoping to continue their momentum while another hopes to get into the winning column after a disappointing start to their season.

After cruising to a 26-2 victory over Calgary Broncos, the Hilltoppers will be seeking to go 2-0 on the CAMFA season.  They will look for offensive production from Ted Kubungo who tallied three majors and rushed for over 100 yards.

One thing to watch for is the connection between Kubungo and pivot David Thairu. The Hilltoppers quarterback has already demonstrated his athleticism as well as his success in leading the offensive unit.

The Hilltoppers defensive line may lack veteran presence but are cohesive as a unit and are feisty on the field.

Meanwhile, the Lions want to get into the win column after being shut out by the Airdrie Raiders 28-0. One silver lining is that the team was able to forge ahead without the presence of quarterback Des Catallier.

An emerging breakout player on the Lions to watch for is linebacker Daniel Teitz.  Last week, he registered 10 tackles and proved to be a menace.  The Hilltoppers offensive line will have to find a way to stop Teitz.

Another Lions player that is expected to be a factor is running back Brad Hillier.  He was a handful last week and the Raiders had a hard time containing him as he broke through tackles.

Kickoff is 6:30pm.
