Langley, BC (July 1, 2017) – Football Canada’s women’s national team claimed silver on June 30 at the 2017 IFAF Women’s World Championship at McLeod Stadium in Langley, BC. The United States defeated Canada 41-16 to capture their third straight gold medal.
“They’re (the US is) a very balanced team so depending on what kind of situations we’re in defensively, they can run the ball and they can throw the ball. They came out fired up in the second half after we finished off the first half with a big play and ran the ball down the field. That’s the sign of a good team and a well coached team – they took what we were giving them,” commented Jeff Yausie, Canada’s head coach after the US seized momentum after Canada closed the first half with a touchdown.

Canada opened the scoring with a 37-yard Carly Dyck field goal. The points marked the first put up against the United States during the 2017 Women’s World Championship.
Canada would add two touchdowns. The first was a long touchdown pass from quarterback Aimee to sister Alexandra Kowalski. Rebekah Heninger ended the third quarter with a fumble recovery which she returned for a touchdown.
“Canada did a good job. They jumped on us when we made mistakes and that happened multiple times. The muffed punt and obviously at the end of the half, not understanding down and distance with 19 seconds left (in the half) and eyes in the backfield. They’re a good team and every time that we were undisciplined or we got out alignment assignment football, they took advantage of it. Canada is on the rise and they’re a great program and very well coached. Their players gave us everything that we could handle…very good team effort by Team Canada,” said Jim Farrell, the United States’ head coach.

Hardley needing to hang their heads, Coach Yausie was “happy” for this players and how hard they played. While disappointing to lose, he was proud of his team and how they never gave up.
“Like I said (the US) is talented and they’re deep. Any team that plays them has their hands full,” Coach Yausie finished.
