Langley (June 25, 2017) –Β Football Canada’s women’s national team opened the 2017 IFAF Women’s World Championship with a convincing 31-6 win over Australia on June 24 at McLeod Stadium in Langley, British Columbia.
“I thought it was a very good football game. We really didn’t know what to expect going into the game. We knew Australia would be well coached by the coaching staff.Β They play with a lot of heart and fire.Β For us as a team, we spread the ball around quite a bit. In the past, we’ve seen a lot of blowout games in the first round of the tournament and this was not a blowout.” –Β Jeff Yausie, head coach of Canada’s women’s national team
Great Britain marked their tournament debut by upsetting two-time defending bronze medalist, Finland, to open the first day of action on June 24.
The host nation will face Great Britain on June 27 at 7:30 p.m. PT in Langley.
