Canada West releases 2014 TV schedule

VANCOUVER, BC – For the eighth straight season, Shaw TV will be the home of Canada West Universities Athletic Association football, kicking off on Friday, September 5, 2014 with the Saskatchewan Huskies hosting the Manitoba Bisons in a highly-anticipated rematch of last season’s Canada West semifinals barnburner.

The 2014-15 season opener is expected to be in front of a capacity crowd at Griffiths Stadium in PotashCorp Park as it coincides with the Huskies Homecoming night.

The Regina Rams will then go through an early season road test on national television when they visit Manitoba on Friday, September 12, and Alberta onSaturday, September 20 on Weeks 2 and 3, respectively.

On Week 4, Shaw TV will feature the grudge match of last season’s Hardy Cup, as the Bisons collide with the 6-time defending Canada West Champions Calgary Dinos under the Friday night lights at McMahon Stadium on September 26.

Fans will then get a mid-season look at the UBC Thunderbirds when they travel to Saskatchewan on Saturday, October 4.  The Thunderbirds are looking to build on last year’s season when they finished at 4-4 and lost to the eventual champion Dinos in the Canada West semifinals.

After the Week 6 bye, Shaw TV goes into a flex schedule for the last three weeks of the regular season to ensure that the television audience will be treated to the most compelling matchup of each week as the playoff picture starts to take shape.

The top four seeds then advance to the postseason as the Canada West semifinals take place on Friday, November 7, and Saturday, November 8.  The Canada West football season culminates with the 78th Hardy Cup on the following week on Saturday, November 15.  Both semifinals matchups and the Hardy Cup will be aired live on Shaw TV.

Canada West’s partnership with Shaw has resulted in the best weekly coverage of university sport in the country. The delivery of Krown Produce Canada West Football on Shaw has elevated the game, making it accessible to thousands across the west on Shaw TV and nationally on Shaw Direct.

Shaw is pleased to provide weekly coverage from the booth with Jim Mullin, entering his 20th season announcing in the CIS, and game host Andy Neal.  Stu Walters, Alanna Nolan and Dave Thomas will man all the action from the sidelines.  Andrew Wadden and Ryan Sullivan will be hosting Krown Countdown U, providing CIS football highlights and updates during the 30-minute pregame show.

Each live broadcast can be seen on local Shaw TV, Shaw HD and Shaw Direct 299.  The complete season schedule is available online at

The Hardy Cup winner earns a berth at the Uteck Bowl on Saturday, November 22, which will be hosted by the Réseau du sport étudiant du Québec (RSEQ) champion.  The 2014 CIS Football National Champion will be crowned at the 50th Vanier Cup in Montreal on Saturday, November 29.  The CIS semifinals and championship will be aired on Sportsnet.
