2026 CFC50 High School Rankings WEEK 9: Hardware handed out in Sault Ste. Marie and Guelph

TOP HEADLINES

  • Two wildly different games with the same result. Raymond and Lethbridge C.I. faced off in the Prairie Sky 5A finals this past week with the Comets once again getting the better of the Rams in a 41-35 shootout. It was stark contrast to their first meeting that also ended with Raymond on top 7-6, which you’d expect the low scoring affair to happen when the weather turns cold and the snow starts to fall in Alberta, but obviously both teams have their offences clicking on all cylinders with the provincial playdowns set to begin in two weeks. Despite the Rams having to watch the celebrations from the sidelines, both programs will inevitably be moving on to the Alberta 5A playoffs with the quarterfinals kicking off on November 14th. They’ll now have to sit around and wait to find out who their opponents will be while the other leagues across the province determine their champions before the bracket is set in stone. Both teams registered an early loss in the season to top ranked Harry Ainlay, but anything can happen when there’s no where left to hide in November.

  • We think it’s safe to call eight city titles in nine seasons a dynasty of epic proportions. At this point it’s shocking that Korah somehow lost the Sault Ste. Marie crown in 2023 to St. Mary’s, but they weren’t going to relinquish their stranglehold this season with a 24-14 victory over the Knights to punch their ticket to NOSSA. The Colts now turn their attention to the bigger picture looking to secure their seventh OFSAA Bowl appearance since 2018, and the opportunity to improve their dominant bowl record to 6-1 with their only loss coming at the hands of Huron Heights in 2024. Awaiting them in the NOSSA playdowns will be St. Benedict out of Sudbury and Algonquin out of North Bay, who will face off in the semifinals this week with the winner getting a chance to knockoff Korah in the finals.
  • St. James are the kings of District 10 for the second year in a row after turning the tables on Centennial in the city finals to come away with the 16-7 victory. It’s their fourth league title since 2018, and after hunting for an OFSAA bowl bid for many years, the Lions now have a chance to go dancing two years in a row if they can survive the CWOSSA playdowns. That will be a lot easier said than done with strong programs like Brantford CI, St. John’s, Elmira, Resurrection and St. Benedict all still vying for a spot in the CWOSSA bracket, and at this point it’s hard to pick a favourite with seemingly thin margins between all the leagues top teams.

CFC100 CLASS 2027 RANKINGS

  • It was billed as a clash of the titans, but Bishop Ryan didn’t read the script putting together a massive 39-0 shutout over St. Thomas More to clinch first seed in the Hamilton Catholic league. This now sets up a pair of intriguing semifinal matchups with Bishop Ryan facing off against Bishop Tonnos, who the Celtics beat 22-3 two weeks ago, and St. Thomas More lining up against Newman, which promises to be a true battle after the Knights held on for a 25-18 win over the Cardinals earlier in the year. It’s important to note that this year both semifinals winners will advance to the GHAC playdowns against the champions from the Halton Public and Catholic leagues, so there’s a lot more than just a spot in the league finals on the line this week.
  • It didn’t effect the playoff seeding, but Charles-Lemoyne definitely received a much needed morale power-up heading into the playoffs after defeating College Bourget 35-21 in their regular season finale, which is a great example of just how much a team can grow throughout the year after they lost to the Voltigeurs 39-8 in their opener. This entire campaign has been Saint-Jean-Eudes as the clear pole sitters, and then we’ve watched College Bourget, Charles-Lemoyne and St-Francois battle it out to determine who’s the second best team with the Voltigeurs defeating the Blizzard, the Dynamiques defeating the Voltigeurs, and the Blizzard defeating the Dynamiques. If the regular season standings are any indication, than the final four should be obvious, but you cannot count out an upset in the quarterfinals with Saint-Louis, Notre-Dame and Armand-Corbeil looking to write their own Cinderella stories.

  • It was an interesting final week in the Halton Catholic league with Corpus Christi falling 14-13 to St. Francis Xavier, but thankfully the Longhorns can simply flush that result as they still enter the semifinals as the number one seed with a matchup against Bishop Reding on deck. The other semifinal will feature a rematch between Assumption and Holy Trinity, who just played in the regular season finale with the Crusaders edging out the Titans in a close 16-10 contest. Corpus Christi and Assumption are still the favourites, but we could very easily see Bishop Reding or Holy Trinity pull off the upset after both teams only loss by one score against their respective opponents in their previous meetings. As mentioned before, the winner of the Halton Catholic League will move on to the GHAC playdowns where they will take on the runner-ups from the Hamilton Catholic league in the semifinals.
  • Is third time truly the charm? Miller will be hoping that’s the case after they survived a crazy overtime thriller against LeBoldus in Regina to book another date against Riffel in the city finals. The first two meetings were all Royals with Riffel outscoring Miller 97-21, but those results will be a distant memory once the ball is kicked off at Leibel Field on Friday night. History leans towards Miller, who have won five of the last seven league titles, meanwhile Riffel are looking to end their championship drought that stretches all the way back to 2011. Can the Marauders find a way to hold on to their crown? Or will the Royals finally reign supreme again in Regina?
