CFC# 1 Rene: “Rutgers was the only school that came out to Canada and Ottawa to watch me play”

In an interview soon after his official verbal commitment to NCAA Division 1 Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) team, Rutgers Scarlet Knights, CFC#1 Patrice Rene opened up about his decision.

The 6’2, 190 pound defensive back from Ottawa, Ontario told TSN’s Matthew Skube in an interview that it all came down to how much at ease he was with the Big Ten Conference Team.  Additionally, he was impressed with the lengths the Scarlett Red went to recruit him.

“I’m very comfortable when I go to school there and hang out with them,” commented the CFC #1 in the interview with Skube.  “They make me feel like I’m one of their own.”

“It’s something that I definitely appreciated.  They recruited me from the very get go.  They were my third offer.  Rutgers was the only school that came out to Canada and Ottawa to watch me play and stuff like that so that stuck around the back of my head.  The whole entire process, I visited everywhere. I enjoyed myself but I’m happy to be over with it and be committed to a school now.”

Yesterday, Rene made the announcement official at Moxie’s Bar and Grill in Orleans, Ontario.  Furthermore, he took to various media outlets to inform everyone where he decided upon.

Since June 2013, the CFC #1 netted 28 offers.  He narrowed down the decision to Rutgers and Ohio State. Ultimately, the Scarlet Knights won the sweepstakes.

The defensive standout is currently suiting up south of the border for Episcopal Maroon in Alexandra, Virginia.  Previous to the Maroon, Rene has suited up for the St. Peter Knights of the National Capital Secondary School Athletic Association (NCSSAA) and Orleans Bengals of the National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA). He trains at Gridiron Academy with Victor Tedondo.
