CFC OFC Game of the Week Preview: “This is our chance to secure home field advantage”

This past weekend, the Toronto Jr. Argos suffered a crushing 39-0 loss against a revamped Clarington Knights.

Last year, the Knights struggled to win a game.

ā€œWe have to be able to put points on the board,ā€ said Jr Argos Coach Carlo Trentadue, ā€œItā€™s that simple.ā€

The loss puts the junior varsity squad in an awkward position in terms of playoff seeding. They will have to win the remainder of their games if there is any hope of a playoff berth.

Standouts from this weekend included safety Ryan Orct who kicked off the first defensive series with an interception. Ryan Cheng and Jake Jenkins both had solid defensive outings.

Despite being unable to find the end zone, quarterback Jonas Hatcher connected with Dejuan Foyle for a couple of critical catches.

However, the varsity Jr. Argos returned the favor and delivered a 62-0 blowout to the Knights.

Treyion Charles carried the ball five times for a whopping 150 yards and 2 touchdowns.

ā€œThe thing with Treyion is you can put him anywhere on the field and have confidence that he will make a play,ā€ said Argos Coach Carlo Onorati.

The Argos defense had a field day as linebacker Michael Blackwood returned an interception for a touchdown. Lenox Adrinkah returned the game opening kickoff for a touchdown and defensive back Liam Grippo had a solid game overall.

ā€œThe next two weeks are crucial for our playoff picture,ā€ said Onorati. ā€œThis is our chance to secure home field advantage.ā€

Both Argos teams will play host to the Oakville Titans this weekend. Ā  The Argos battling for a win this Sunday, June 29th at St. Michaelā€™s College School.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
