CFC OVFL Game of the Week Preview: “I expect the game to be a grind and hard fought down to the wire”

The varsity Scarborough Thunder are off to a booming start this season after defeating the York Simcoe Bucs last week 23-12.

Offensive captain and quarterback Brett Watson threw for 211 yards on 19 completions and one interception. Andre Murphy seemed to be Watson’s favorite target with four receptions for 105 yards.

Other offensive standouts included Rakeem Simms, who carried the ball 11 times for 113 yards.

“On defense, collectively we have lots of work to do to become better as a unit” said Head Coach Paul Swaby, “However, starting the season 1-0 is a great start”.

Defensive back Deshon Boodho had a key interception that closed out the game in victory.

The Thunder are matched up against the Oshawa Hawkeyes this weekend; a team who was unable to put points on the board last week.

However, Swaby takes no team lightly:

“I expect the game to be a grind and hard fought down to the wire,” said Swaby.  “Football is a game of momentum and emotion and whichever team captures that will come out victorious”.

The Hawkeyes hope to use home field to their advantage against a rolling Thunder squad.

The Thunder visits the Hawkeyes under the lights at 7pm on May 31st at Oshawa Civic Stadium.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
