CFC OVFL Game of the Week Preview: “It’s big for Ottawa”

It will be a special homecoming for the Ottawa Myers Riders.

The Riders will play their home opener on May 31st against the Markham Raiders. It will be a special occasion because the Varsity team will be presented with the 2013 OVFL Championship trophy in front of their home fans.

“It’s big for Ottawa because it’s the first time an Ottawa team has won a Varsity OVFL championship,” said Myers Riders Head Coach Max Palladino.

The championship game last season was marred by a bench brawl at the end of the game that prevented the trophy ceremony from happening. The presentation will be a reminder to Myers Riders and their fans of the incredible season they had last year which saw them go undefeated and breaking 17 league records.

The varsity Myers Riders looks to continue their success in Week 2, coming off a 51-13 road win against the Kingston Grenadiers in Week 1. Their passing game was on fire as quarterback Matt Duffy threw for 218 yards and connected for three touchdowns in the air.

As for the junior varsity team they too had a successful Week 1, winning 38-15 against Kingston. The junior team showed a strong running attack last game, led by running backs Jalla Lansanah and Brian Franklin. They scored all of their five touchdowns on the ground.

Both teams are undefeated and look to remain that way against the Markham Raiders in Week 2.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
