CFC OVFL Game of the Week Preview: “Keep winning”

After their respective victories this past Sunday, both Cambridge Lions Head Coaches Gary Skalos (junior varsity) and Anthony Maggiacomo (varsity) praised the contribution put forth by the leadership in their lineups.

Skalos was especially impressed with the play of Lions defensive captain Ben Drummond.

“[He] had an epic day,” expressed Skalos of Drummond.   “It’s one thing to watch game film and see an extraordinary effort, but to know you’re watching one as it happens is pretty cool.”

“Ben doesn’t speak very much but his ability to lead through example is second to none.”

Moreover, pivot Jackson White is coming into his own as a leader.

“He is playing at a high level already and will only get better as we move forward,” added Skalos.

Overall, there is one simple goal the junior varsity Lions hope to achieve this upcoming week.

“Keep winning,” said Skalos.

Meanwhile, Maggiacomo was pleased with the leaders’ ability to set a good example on the varsity squad.

“I think our leaders have done a great job keeping our team focused in crunch time,” said Maggiacomo.  “They are displaying excellent maturity and it’s beginning to show with the younger players on our team.”

Moreover, pivot James Roberts turned in a solid performance this past weekend.

“James played his best OVFL game today of his career,” added Maggiacomo of Roberts.

As they prepare for their game on Saturday with the Halton Cowboys, Maggiacomo hopes for his team’s skill to increase as the season carries on.

“We expect our team to steadily improve as the weeks progress, we have a mentality of always improving and are just excited to clean up mistakes from today to be better,” said Maggiacomo.

Kick-off at the Jacob Hespeler Field is 3:00pm for junior varsity Lions.  Meanwhile, the varsity Lions follow afterwards under the lights at 8:00pm.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
