After a hard fought battle against the Niagara Spears last Saturday, the Varsity Cambridge Lions of the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) have captured the top spot in the Adam’s Conference.
Veteran kicker Keiran Burnham said the win will fuel him and his teammates for their game this weekend against the second place Essex Ravens.
“We played a much more physical game and executed our game plan well against Niagara,” said the future St. Francis Xavier X-Men, “The team’s spirit is high after last week’s win and we hope to carry that momentum for this week,”.
Burnham commented on how the communication between his team’s coaches and teammates is an important factor behind the team’s success.
“The coach to player relationships are great, the coaches let us know what they expect for us to bring in order to keep winning,” he said.
These two teams had a showdown last year’s as the underdog Lions came out on top with a 23-22 victory over the heavily favoured Ravens, adding even more tension to this weekend’s match up.
These rivals will clash Saturday at 7:00pm at the University of Windsor’s Alumni Field.
Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
