CFC OVFL (JV) Game of the Week Preview: “There is some bad blood”

The rivalry in the Nation’s Capital continues as the junior varsity Myers Riders will play the Cumberland Panthers this weekend.

“It’s huge for the players,” says Panthers junior varsity Head Coach Warren Steeves. “I think rivalries are fun and this is a healthy rivalry.”

But Steeves adds that “there is some bad blood” between the two teams.

The game is sure to have an intense atmosphere.

The teams are two of the best in the province and are both undefeated at 6-0.

They are both strong rushing teams.

Myers has used several running backs this season most notably Jalla Lansanah who leads the team with 469 rushing yards.

Meanwhile, Cumberland has seen great things from running back Baxter Balthazar who has 687 yards on the ground and 13 touchdowns so far this season.

“Myers is a very disciplined and well-coached team,” says Steeves.

He notes a key for his team is to have a strong start to the game, and to avoid taking costly penalties.

The Nation’s Capital is in for some classic football games to be sure this weekend at Minto Field.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
