British Columbia was the final province left standing, and they actually sounded the alarm twice over the weekend depending how you rate these programs. In the Hybrid AA/AAA Interior Championship Game, the smaller side ended up falling as Vernon took AAA Kelowna to the brink of defeat before falling 21-20. It’s a disappointing end to the year for the Panthers who only allowed 16 points across five regular season games, but it was always going to be a tough task going up against the Owls who competed in the ultra competitive AAA East Division featuring top ten CFC50 programs G.W. Graham and Terry Fox, who competed in the AAA Finals.

In our other game of the week, we saw the AA Coastal Championship contested between Robert Bateman and Carson Graham, with the Timberwolves coming in as the heavy favourites after handing the Eagles a tough 46-12 loss late in the season on November 5th. But as we’ve learned many times this year, you can throw all records out the window come playoff time because we ended up with a mesmerizing matchup that saw both teams answer the bell over and over again. In the end, it took overtime to separate the two programs with Carson Graham making a huge stand on the final two point conversion attempt by Bateman to secure the 40-38 victory. If you’ve got the time, it’s definitely worth scrolling through the @BCHSFB Twitter account for all the highlights from B.C. Place, which also featured a last second drive by Robert Bateman that ended with a game-tying field to send it into extra time.

Between the AA/AAA divisions, it was a fantastic slate of final games in B.C. to cap off what’s been a brilliant year of football across Canada. Congratulations to St. Joseph’s on earning the title of best small school football program in Canada, and to the rest of our title winners from coast to coast. Lastly a massive thank you to every coach, volunteer and prospect who got the show back on the road after a very long year without football in our country.

Now it’s time for recruiting and camp season …

Who’s getting ranked?

For the first time, Canadafootballchat.com (CFC) is pleased to bring you the national ‘Small School’ high school football rankings known as the CFC25.

The CFC25 rankings considers all conference and non-conference games (in Canada and the United States) while scrimmages are not evaluated (there is no such thing as an exhibition game – those are classified as non-conference games) and forfeit* wins are not considered towards overall record.

How is the CFC25 evaluated?

Leagues/teams included in rankings:

  • British Columbia: AA Varsity
  • Alberta: Tier 2-4
  • Saskatchewan: 12-man 3A rural, Saskatoon  – 5A, Regina – Stewart
  • Manitoba: Division 2 and 3 Varsity
  • Ontario: NSSAA – Haldimand-Norfolk, BAA – Bluewater, COSSAA – Kawartha, COSSAA – Bay of Quinte, LRFL – Lanark-Renfrew, LGSSAA – Brockville, EOFC – Cornwall
  • Quebec: Juvenile Division 1b
  • New Brunswick: 12-man D2E and D2W
  • Nova Scotia: Div. 2 Nova – Sydney Academy, Horton, Millwood, Avon View, Cole Harbour. Scotia – Sackville, Park View, J.L. Ilsley, Central Kings, West Kings (***NS league was re-aligned Oct. 1, 2019. These are now the Division 2 teams and will take into affect for week 7 ranking)

The CFC25 is a RELATIVE RANKING that considers small school leagues from all eight high school playing provinces (minimum one team represented from each province) and the strength of the league. Additional criteria used to determine the relative ranking are the ability to accomplish winning a championship, the impact players and performers on that team (ie. CFC100s, CDN All-Stars etc.), and a team’s coaching and recent tradition.

The CFC Scouting Bureau consists of CFC Reporters, CFC Scouts, and selected local reporters and scouts who submit local ranking results on a weekly basis. The CFC25 is released every Tuesday (other than on Holidays) at 12 noon.
