No. 30 Notre Dame Pride (3-1, 0-1) 7Β
In the matchup of the week, the St, Francis Browns had no trouble coming out on top of the highly anticipated game of the season versus the Notre Dame Pride. In the first half, Notre Dame’s front seven (#CFC100Β DL Tyler Packer, DL Matthew Misiewicz, and LB Aidan Miele stand out) forced the Browns to grind the ball along the ground rather then hit big play after big play.Β  The Browns moved the ball, but couldn’t find the endzone.Β  St. Francis kicker, Jayden Sheilan hit three field goals in the first half (42, 26 and 13 yards) to make it 9-0.Β  With two minutes remaining in the second quarter, Notre Dame’s safety, Tyler Bedier, intercepted a St. Francis pass followed by a penalty which game the Pride the ball at the Brown’s 5 yard line. Β Two plays later, Briel Pasqual scored on a 2 yard run making the score 9-7 going into the half.Β Second half action saw some adjustments made by the Browns. The passing attack improved with QB Cole Belway who had a good evening and Alex Groshak finished the day with 4 receptions for 56 yards and grade 11 receiver Daniel Perry ended up with 8 receptions for 140 yards and 1 TD.Β  RB Ethan Moroz added a 1 yard TD plunge. TheΒ Brown’s defense took over in the second half, scoring 3 defensive touchdowns. Notre Dame was ineffective running the ball and when trying to pass the ball, created 4 turnovers which decided the game.

Kelowna Owls (0-4) 0 (source: Kelowna Owls)
It was a tough game for KSS as they weren’t able to gain the momentum needed to score against Terry Fox.Β “It’s tough to lose like we did, and it seemed like when we would start gaining momentum on offense, mental mistakes stopped us.Β  We made some great plays on defence. I am so proud of our guys with how we finished. We have a lot of young guys who learned a lot.Β  Our process to success is getting better” – Head Coach, Chris Cartwright

On offense, Kinsale Phillips had a late second half touchdown pass of 34 yards to #CFC100 Prento Durigon. This play proved to be the deciding factor in what would be a defensive battle all night long.Β Throughout the game the Hyacks defense held the opposition out of the endzone. Ben Tjernagel and Sammy Sidhu made TD saving tackles. Connor Pattison finished with 8 tackles and was also named Lineman of the game. Sidhu and. Finn Stark blocked a 45 FG attempt in the final seconds to hang on for the win.Β “I’m very proud of the way our defense played tonight. VC was in our end a few times in the 2nd half and we were able to keep them out of the endzone time and again. We’ve had a bit of an offensive identity over the past couple of years, but we also have a fast, aggressive defense and it was nice to win a game on that side of the ball.” – Head Coach, Farhan Lalji
