Ontario
- Corpus Christi have made a steady rise up the rankings this season, and they passed their biggest test so far with a 45-13 blowout victory over their rivals from Holy Trinity. They can’t start looking too far ahead, but you know in the back of their minds they’re dreaming of a rematch with Bishop Tonnos in the GHAC playdowns after falling 22-20 to the Titans in the semifinals last year, and the chance to make history as the first Longhorns team to compete for an OFSAA Bowl.
- It’s turned into a three horse race in Ottawa at the top of the standings, and this week we give the nod to St. Joseph, who are off to a blazing start outscoring their first three opponents 162-0. They’ll be hoping to chase down the reigning champions from St. Matthew, who handed them their only loss of the season in the finals last year. The Tigers will get a better sense of where they stand in the pecking order this week with a big matchup against undefeated St. Peter, who are the third unbeaten horse in the title race right now.
- This game could’ve gone either way, but A.B. Lucas showed some mental toughness with a 10-7 win over Catholic Central. The Vikings will secure the top seed heading into the playoffs if they can take care of business this week against Medway, while Catholic Central will be looking to snatch away first place in the Darnell Division with a victory over South in their regular season finale. It’s not often a team jumps on the rankings after a loss, but the Crusaders can compete with the best around in London, and are a real threat to make a run in the playoffs if they can learn from their loss against the Vikings.
- We’ve been waiting for someone to make a statement in Thunder Bay, and finally Hammarskjold stepped up to the plate with a massive 35-13 victory over St. Ignatius. This doesn’t erase their 7-7 tie with St. Ignatius from earlier in the year, but it’s a good sign that they’ve finally hit their stride and are now the team to beat with playoffs right around the corner.

British Columbia
- Kelowna have probably felt a little disrespected in British Columbia football circles, but nobody should be ignoring them now after a 20-0 shutout over Rutland. For context, the governing body BC School Sports puts out their own provincial rankings – and not only did Kelowna not make the top ten – they were still ranked behind Notre Dame, who they defeated two weeks ago. Rutland entered as the heavy favourites in the eyes of a lot of people, but it’s time for the Owls to get the respect they deserve after a great start to the regular season.
- Another program who’s been making waves in BC this year is New Westminster, who remain undefeated in regular season action after a clutch 21-20 victory over South Delta. The Hyacks are the only other team outside Vancouver College to have a 3-0 record in the standings, and it’ll be fun to watch as they try to run the table in the AAA Central Division with three games remaining against Seaquam, Centennial and St. Thomas More.
Saskatchewan
- LeBoldus have been toying with the rankings all year, and they’ve climbed their way back into the top 50 conversation with a decisive 36-8 victory over Campbell. This was a key win to build some confidence heading into the playoffs after dropping their first matchup against Campbell 22-13 back in week three. The playoffs begin in Regina this week, and the Golden Suns have now secured the second seed meaning they are on a collision course with number one ranked Miller in the city finals. They corrected their mistakes against Campbell, but will they be able to do it again if they get one more shot at Miller?

Quebec
- College Notre-Dame might be one of the best programs in the country talent wise, but for whatever reason they haven’t figured out a way to close out victories in the fourth quarter. They suffered another heart breaking 26-23 loss to College Bourget, and have now dropped below .500 in the standings. They could easily be undefeated with their four losses coming by a combined 16 points against Saint-Jean-Eudes, Saint-Francois, Armand-Corbeil and College Bourget in one score games. One thing is for sure, none of the top dogs are gunna be happy to see the Cactus on the schedule come playoff time.
Alberta
- Bev Facey have been enjoying an incredible comeback season after some lean years since the Chuba Hubbard days, but unfortunately they couldn’t keep the good times rolling with a tough 27-4 loss to Salisbury. They’ve fallen off the rankings for now, but there’s still potential that they crack the final 50 if they can put together a strong run in the playoffs.
- Football can be an emotional rollercoaster, and there’s no better example than Notre Dame falling 36-0 to Holy Trinity Academy off the back of a massive win against their rivals from St. Francis. We always try to pump up the abilities of programs ranked on the CFC25 Small School Rankings, and the past two weeks we’ve seen direct evidence with Holy Trinity Academy and Aden Bowman securing huge wins over CFC50 opponents.
