CFC50 Weekend Watch (12): Fantastic week of playoffs produce HOPE

Around the country, there are some great matchups happening between CFC50 high school teams. Here is a look at what you can expect this weekend.

Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and New Brunswick have all crowned their 2018 champions, but this is when BC, Alberta, and Ontario heat up. Nova Scotia will declare their provincial champion this week when No. 33 Citadel plays against CP Allen.

The No. 1 St. Thomas More will take on No. 19 Nelson for the GHAC semifinals. OFSAA grants two GHAC spots to participate in an Bowl game…we are sure both these teams are hankering to be the one that brings the other down. No. 3 Catholic Central takes on No. 6 A.B Lucas for the WOSSAA final and No. 4 Herman will face up against No. 13 Holy Names for the WECSSAA final. Lastly, we see No. 23 Cardinal Newman go up against newcomer No. 34 Corpus Christi for the second GHAC semifinal.

All of Ontario games this week are one-and-dones.

Quebec will also be crowing the 2018 juvenile div 1 Bol d’Or champion. No. 5 Sem. Saint-Francois will go up against College Jean-Eudes who upset the previous No. 3 Saint-Jean-Eudes last weekend.

Alberta continues with their playdowns until they get to the Tier finals. No. 9 Notre dame will once again take on No. 12 St. Francis in the battle of the South, while Harry Ainlay will have a much easier time going up against Lindsay Thurber for the North. The winner of these two games will face each other in the Division 1 Tier 1 Alberta provincial final.

In British Columbia, the quarterfinal round will start in BC Place. It’s always a magical moment for these teams as they get to experience a CFL stadium – out of the cold (well out of the cold for the west coast). While all the games in the AAA level will be fierce and riddled with all kinds of past rivalries, the one game we are most excited to watch is the South Delta/Vancouver College game. In the beginning of October, the Irish squeaked out the win, 35-34 and then went on the trounce all remaining opponents. SD has been the only competitive game for this squad all year. The Sun Devils are a feisty group, we are sure this game will be nothing but pure, intense, energy. Look for the playoff scenarios coming out in the next couple days.

The rankings after this week will see drastic swings as only one team can be called the winner. The sea of red on the big board is quite a sight to see. It’s our favorite time as CFC see’s who the gamers are and who comes out to play. Like we always say, no lead is safe, and playoffs produce a powerful weapon…HOPE. It’s a fantastic week for high school football!!
