#CFCOPC PLAYERS TO WATCH: Team West Grade 8 DB Cronkwright set for big game

The countdown begins to CanadaFootballChat.com Ontario Prospect Challenge on the April 29th weekend at Tim Horton’s Field in Hamilton. In the days leading up to the OPC, CFC will preview the teams and the players participating in the big event.

The Ontario Prospect Challenge is sure to test the involved players, but TJ Cronkwright, a defensive back for Team West Grade 8 squad, is prepared for whatever is in store for him.

“I was ready for a challenge and I knew OPC would give me one,” Cronkwright said. So far, the said the highlight of the OPC is “getting to play with all new people.”

Cronkwright is 5’9, 142 pounds and has played with the Niagara Spears and the Niagara Generals of the Ontario Varsity Football League. The young football player enjoys his current position as a defensive back because he can make tackles and he has a better chance of getting a touchdown through an interception.

When asked about his favourite player, Cronkwright chose Ha-Ha Clinton-Dix “because he is really good at his position and he plays for my favourite team, the Green Bay Packers.”

The OPC offers young players a chance to play on the same field as professionals. This fact has made Cronkwright excited for the OPC. But, at the same time, playing in a big stadium can bring the pressure as well. That doesn’t faze him however. “I’ll just focus on the game and nothing else,” he said.

Set to graduate in 2020, Cronkwright is aiming for the CFL or the NFL. “For NCAA, I want to go to Ohio State and for CIS, I want to go to the University of Guelph,” he added.

Cronkwright has high hopes for his team and himself. “I want our defence to get a shutout and our offence to get over 30 points,” he said. His personal goal is 10 or more tackles, an interception for a touchdown and a forced fumble.

But, at the end of the day, Cronkwright said the team’s goal is “to play as a team and win this game.”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
