#CFCOPC16 RECAP (Freshmen): Asselin powers Team East to shutout win over Team Halton-Peel [stats]

On Saturday afternoon at Tim Horton’s Field in Hamilton, Jake Asselin tallied three majors and rushed for 167 yards on 11 carries as Team East earned a 55-0 shutout victory over Team Halton-Peel at the 2016 Ontario Prospect Challenge (OPC) Freshmen contest.

At halftime, Team East built up a 29-0 lead as Asselin scored two majors (11 yards and 34 yards).  Additonally, Xavier Gervais added a four yard score while pivot Huzaifa Rana connected with Kyle Markell for a 34 yard touchdown.

Team East continued their dominance in the second half as the squad would find the end zone four additional times.  First, Wes Tshimanga connected with Ben Williams for a nine yard major.  Soon after Jeremy Latour dashed into the end zone for seven yard touchdown 28 second into the fourth quarter.

Rana found Gabriel Seguin for a two yard score.  Asselin rounded out the scoring with a hat trick – his third major of the game which was a 21 yard touchdown in the dying minutes of the game.

Overall, Team East racked up 252 rushing yards on 25 carries as well as 224 passing yards.  Rana completed eight passes in 11 attempts for 123 yards and two passing touchdowns.

As for Team Halton-Peel, Zack Ihasz had 22 yards on four carries while Deshawn Wright had 25 yards on two receptions.

Asselin was selected as Big Kahuna Sports Company Game MVP.  Furthermore, Team East receiver Kevin Victome was named Spalding Offensive Player of the Game while Team Halton-Peel defensive lineman Donovan Moore grabbed Russell Athletics Defensive Player of the Game.
