The Canadian Football League has officially announced the names of the players who were bestowed with team awards. Each club hands out six awards to their players, which also serves as a nomination for the 2019 Shaw CFL Awards ceremony. Many sports writers and important names in the sports world praised this approach, as it can lead to a more objective way of rewarding players for their performance.
Each teamβs winners were voted by their respective head coach and journalists who are members of the Football Reports of Canada (FRC) organization. Interestingly, only journalists based in the same city as the team could cast a vote.
This aspect also received praise because it promotes objectivity when it comes to nominations, while also preventing reporters who arenβt knowledgeable about a particular team from skewing the results. Other North American sports leagues, such as the National Basketball Association (NBA), have a rampart problem with subjective voting and a lack of parameters, which resulted in situations such as Gary Washburn from the Boston Globe preventing LeBron James from being the first unanimous MVP in league history.
In total, voters had to pick players in six categories, which are:
Most Outstanding Player
β Most Outstanding Canadian
β Most Outstanding Defensive Player
β Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman
β Most Outstanding Rookie
β Most Outstanding Special Teams Player
On November 7, the CFL will announce the winners for both the East and West divisions, while the 2019 Shaw CFL Awards are to take place on November 21 at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary. The ceremony will be one of the many events that will take place during the four-day Grey Cup Festival. Do you want to be the next winner? Try your luck in one of the Online Casinos in Canada.
