Clan Places 10 Players on All-Conference Football Team

Jordan Herdman, GNAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015, was named First Team All-Conference for the third straight year.

PORTLAND, Ore. ā€“ Simon Fraser University placed 10 players on the 2016 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Football All-Conference Team, led by senior linebacker Jordan Herdman, a First Team selection.

Herdman, GNAC Defensive Player of the Year in 2014 and 2015, was named First Team All-Conference for the third straight year. Herdman led the conference in tackles with 113 this season, tied for 10th in NCAA Division II. He fell three solo tackles short of tying the GNAC career record of 208, set by Central Washington’s Blake Walker from 2001-2004.

With 428 career tackles, Herdman is the GNAC all-time leader in tackles and assisted tackles and he holds GNAC records with 27 tackles in a game and 165 in a season.

Simon Fraser has six players named to the All-Conference Second Team, three on offensive and three on defensive. Sophomore running back Jalen Jana (Surrey), junior wide receiver Justin Buren (Coquitlam) and senior offensive lineman Felix Gacusana Jr. (Burnaby) were named on offense. Sophomore defensive lineman Kyle Wilson (Newmarket), senior linebacker Justin Herdman (Winnipeg) and senior safety Jordan Pugh (Nanaimo) were chosen on defense.

Honourable Mention selections went to senior offensive linemen Jacob Christensen (Campbell River) and Evan Telford (Victoria) and sophomore defensive lineman Brad Lyons (Port Coquitlam).

The Clan football team wrapped up its 2016 season with a 40-13 defeat at the hands of the Western Oregon Wolves on Saturday.
