Week 5 in the Central Ontario Minor Football League (COMFL) saw 6 of 7 teams from the Hamilton Wentworth Tiger-Cats playing at their home park at MacRae Fields.
The only team not playing there was the Peewee AA team who enjoyed a bye week.
The day started off with a fantastic game between HWMFA Tyke1 Tiger-Cats facing the Brantford Tyke2 Bisons. Brantford came out strong scoring 2 touchdowns in the first quarter with one successful convert.
Hamilton Wentworth scored once in the first quarter off a TD run by Brett Miller with Damon Clark added the extra point. The second quarter was a see saw battle with both teams getting TD’s. The Tiger-Cats was scored on a TD run by Braiden Chandler, with Clark connecting on the convert. Brantford was unsuccessful on their convert, so at half-time the score was 19-14 for the Bisons.
The Hamilton Wentworth team came out quickly in the second half and pulled into the lead on a Ky Grant TD run and Clark convert. Brantford then retook the lead at the end of the quarter with their own touchdown run.
Going into the fourth quarter the Tyke Tiger-Cats knew the needed a score and some big defense. They got the score when Ben Baksys connected on a TD pass to Braiden Chandler. Once again, Clark added the convert.
The defense was able to keep Brantford off the scoreboard in the fourth quarter and the final ended at 28-25 for the home town HWMFA Tyke1 Tiger-Cats.
