The varsity Essex Ravens have knocked out the defending Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL) London Mustangs in conference semifinals yesterday.

Ravens running back Eli Fera scored two touchdowns for the Ravens and also had 125 rushing yards to lead the team to victory.

At halftime, the Ravens had the defending league champions on the ropes, as the team enjoyed a 29-0 lead.

However, the Mustangs began to surge in the second half.Β  The team would score their first touchdown of the game in the third quarter to lower the deficit 29-7.

In the fourth quarter, Mustangs pivot Cameron Geddes ran into the end zone while an onside kickoff return from Matt Gruninger led to another Mustangs touchdown.

However, the Ravens would respond back as Fera would score his second touchdown of game to strengthen the lead 36-21.

Once again, Geddes found the end zone for the Mustangs.Β  With 2:13 left in the game, the Mustangs recovered an onside kick.Β  Subsequently, Geddes connected with Matthew Decicco for a touchdown.Β  This set up the two point conversion attempt, which the Mustangs were unable to capitalize on.

With this victory, the Ravens now advance to the conference finals.Β  Opponent, game date and location were yet to be determined by press time.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
