OFC JV: Jr. Argos establish their authority

The JV Toronto Jr. Argos opened the season with a convincing win over the Vaughn Rebels, 40-9 last Saturday. The Jr. Argos were able to control the game in almost every aspect, and by halftime were able to run the clock with their substitutions on the field.

Although the Jr. Argos were eventually able to control the Rebels, the very beginning of the game had Vaughn with possession for almost three minutes on their first drive. After the rough start, the Jr. Argos defense rallied and were able to stop the Rebels several times after.

“Our D line controlled the line of scrimmage,” Says head coach Derek McDonald. “They made life easier for the defense to make their checks.”

Defensive standouts included Liam Grippo, who made several tackles and returned a punt for a touchdown.

Offensively, it was the work of Jaeden Hyland who put most of the points on the board. He scored three touchdowns and ran for almost 200 yards on only five carries. Other offensive standouts included Garth Pinnock who was able to run in for a touchdown of his own.

Next week the Jr. Argos will face the Peterborough Wolverines this Saturday. “We always look forward to playing Peterborough,” Says McDonald. “Historically when we play them it is very physical for the JV level, and we want to stop them as opposed to them stopping us.”

The game will take place at 1:30PM at Kenner Field in Peterborough.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
