Sam Graham started his gridiron career in the Sault Minor Football League (SMFL) in the summer of 2011 as a centre.

“I really enjoy playing the game so I continue with the sport,” said Sam. “For the next two years, I continue to be a centre and defensive end.”

In 2013, he received the Lineman of the Year award, and in the winter he attended a quarterback training camp for four months. At the start of the 2014 season, Sam became a quarterback and the team went on to win the championship game.

He continued to train as a quarterback and returned to the position in the 2015 season, where they had a close lose in the championship game and he was awarded Offensive Player of the Year.

“That was my best year of ball I played so far,” commented Sam.

The following spring, he made the Ontario Varsity Football League’s (OVFL) junior varsity Sault Sabercats as the backup quarterback.

“I didn’t play much in the season, which was disappointing,” continued Sam, “but I was glad to be a part of a good group of guys and see the other cities top players.”

The fall brought him to his first year of high school football with the Superior Heights Steelhawks in the Northern Ontario Secondary School Association (NOSSA), where he started off as a quarterback, but then changed to right outside linebacker to try something new.

“I enjoy the position and was improving on my game as the season went on,” added the Sabercat. “Our team had a rough season as there was many new inexperienced players.” But, in the second last game of the year the linebacker got eight tackles and they won 14-13 against the first place team.

“I enjoyed playing this new position,” said Sam, “I would like to continue and develop in this position.”

This will be Sam’s first time trying out for the Fox 40 Prospect Challenge.

During the offseason, he plays basketball, volleyball, and he works out in the gym for cardio and he started some strength training.

“My goal is to meet new people and learn as much as I can off the coaches,” explained the linebacker. “I would love the opportunity to play football for OPC.”

On the field, his idol is Randall Cobb because he had an injury and thought his career was over, but he came back and had an amazing season.

“He is a very respectful player and respects the fans and the game,” said the Steelhawk, who had the opportunity to see him play in the 50th Super Bowl against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Sam fell in love with the fame when he watched a movie when he was young.

“Right then and there I went to my father and asked him to put me in football and never looked back,” continued the linebacker, who enjoys both watching and playing the game.

“I love the respect that people give the game and the work that my team members and I put in together to make some pretty amazing plays,” explained Sam.
