Fox 40 Prospect Challenge (West Coast): QB Williams accredits football to changing his life

There are many reasons why quarterback, Tate Williams, loves to play football. “One main reason is the team aspect of the sport. Every position is important and equal to the next one. Also I love the brotherhood of the team. You play for the guy next to you, not for yourself, and if the entire team does that it’s the best feeling in the world,” he says.

The 6’2, 185-pounds athlete has been playing football for five years now. With 894 passing yards and 12 touchdowns, to go along with 204 rushing yards and 3 rushing touchdowns, Williams has already been turning heads as a grade 10 player. He has been awarded the 2015 Handsworth Athlete of the Year, 2015 Coaches’ Dedication Football Award, 2016 Best Back, 2016 MVP Buchanan Bowl, and was the 2016 Handsworth Royals Basketball Team Captain.

And he is only getting started. He states, “Football has taught me leadership, teamwork, hard work, and it has motivated me to improve myself. I have been fortunate to play on some great teams and experience things I never would have without football.”

He goes on to say that Handsworth football has been outstanding as they went undefeated in the regular season and deep into playoffs. “I would love to play football at the next level and I hope to achieve that goal.”

For the CFCFPC, Williams wants to recognized and ranked as one of the top quarterbacks in the country. In order to accomplish this goal, he will be training in the off-season to become a better athlete and better at his position. He says that playing basketball has helped him to become more athletic and he tries to get to as many camps and training sessions as possible.

He adds, “This year I am playing on the Game Ready Elite 7 on 7 team, which is a great opportunity for me to improve and prepare for the season. I have also recently made the U18 Canada Cup team. I also am on a training program to increase my strength and speed/agility.”

With him working hard towards getting to the top of the QB pile, Tate has a few professional players that he uses to inspire and motivate him on his way.

One player I idolize is Tim Tebow. I love his play style and I try to model my style after his. Also his leadership is something I admire as I am the captain of my high school team and a natural born leader.”

He also looks up to Adam Bighill as a role model as he helps him to train hard and often. “I also learned from him to put in 100% effort into everything you do, and how if something isn’t making you better, there isn’t much point to it.”

Football has changed Tate’s life and he is willing to go after his dreams in the biggest way possible.
