Kingston, ON – After finishing the season with an impressive 7-1 record, the Grenadiers senior varsity football team has secured second place in the Ontario Varsity Football League conference playoffs and home-field advantage over the visiting Toronto Thunder.

“We didn’t meet the Thunder during the regular season but we’ve reviewed their game film and will be relying on our offence to put points on the board,” says senior varsity coach Mark Magee. “Our defence has been playing well all season and lead the league by allowing only 86 points against. I don’t expect that will change this weekend.”

The Toronto Thunder also finished the season at 7-1 and allowed just 99 points against this season.

The senior varsity game kicks off at noon this Saturday on their home-field at L.C.V.I., 153 Van Order Dr. Gate admission is $5 and children under 12 are always free.

“We’ve noticed increased support and attendance from the community this year which has contributed to higher team morale and ultimately successful seasons for both teams,” says Alexandra Reyes-Walsh, executive director. “When it comes to football, Ontario takes Kingston very seriously.”

Finishing third, the junior Grenadiers will hit the road on Sunday to face the second place Durham Dolphins in Pickering at 2:30 p.m. Follow @GrensFootball on Twitter for live game updates.

About the Grenadiers:
The Limestone District Grenadiers Football Club offers AAA summer football at the junior and senior varsity level. Athletes (aged 15-19) travel to Kingston from Trenton to Brockville to play for the Grenadiers. Teams travel and host within the Ontario Varsity Football League (OVFL). In addition to learning, playing and enjoying football, emphasis is placed on sportsmanship, self-discipline, teamwork, academic achievement and community involvement. The Grenadiers are a not-for-profit association overseen by a volunteer board of directors. Volunteer coaches lead these teams, and a dedicated group of parent volunteers assist with game-day operations. Many graduating Grenadiers move on to play university football.
