OFC JV: Stallions defense surrenders lead to Titans in final quarter
The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team fell to 3-3 on the season with a 28-26 loss to the Oakville Titans.
The Stallions had several key missing players but saw their replacements step up to the challenge.
The Stallions scored on the first possession of the game when Christian DiSabatino connected with Nick Stadynik for a 25 yard touchdown. At the end of the first quarter the Stallions led 11-7 but failed on several opportunities to extend their lead in the second stanza.
In the third quarter, the Stallions surged ahead 18-14 on a 15 yard Matt Howe touchdown run. Howe was the top offensive player for the Stallions with his fifth 100 yard rushing performance of the season. The Stallions then missed a short 20 yard field goal which would turn out to be costly.
The end of the game was very dramatic. Oakville executed a 103 yard 4th quarter drive that saw them take a 9 point lead with under three minutes remaining. The Stallions then went with a hurry up offence that saw another DiSabatino touchdown pass this time to Devin McGuirk with 19 seconds remaining. The ensuing onside kick attempt was unsuccessful as Oakville hung on for the win.
The Junior Varsity team will host Vaughn at 8PM Friday night at the Barrie Sports Complex in Midhurst. The Stallions’ Varsity team had their game rained out this past weekend and will take the field again Saturday at 6:30 against the Nippising Wild also at the Barrie Sports Complex.
The Huronia Stallions Bantam Football Team fell to 1-4 on the season with a 49-14 loss to the Division leading Peterborough Wolverines.
The game started well for the Stallions as explosive Slotback Rhys Rusby scored on the first offensive play of the game with a 60 yard scamper. The defence had a tough second quarter in which they yielded 4 consecutive touchdowns. Rusby then broke off a 70 yard touchdown run to bring the Stallions within two scores.
However, Peterborough proved to be too much the rest of the way as they cruised to the victory. The top defensive highlight was Elijah Kent’s interception. Curtis Gainey, Brandon Ransier and Josh Greenman were the other standout players for the Stallions. The Bantam squads’ next game is this Saturday at 7PM in Vaughn.
