Herdman Headlines GNAC Academic All-Conference Team

Conference’s Top Tackler also Top in Classroom Β  Β 

Portland,ORΒ  – The Simon Fraser University football team has placed three athletes on the 2014 Great Northwest Athletic Conference Academic All-Conference team, including team headliner Jordan Herdman.

The Winnipeg, MB native boasts a conference-leading 3.99 grade point average (GPA), to lead the 43-man team in his first year eligible for the award.

The redshirt-sophomore studies Biomedical Physiology and makes his mark outside of the classroom as well, as he leads the GNAC in tackles this season.

The linebacker has set a GNAC single-season record for tackles as well as a single-game record for total tackles already this year, and going into the final week of the football regular season, ranks second in the nation averaging 14.8 tackles per game.

Joining Herdman on the All-Conference team are his twin brother Justin Herdman (Winnipeg, BC) and sophomore Andrew Pauls (Vancouver, BC) who both study Biomedical Physiology as well.

Pauls, a tight end who has appeared in all ten games with the Clan this season boasts a 3.58 GPA while Justin Herdman who ranks sixth in the GNAC in fumbles recovered, has a 3.51 GPA.

To qualify for the GNAC Academic all-conference team, student-athletes must have a minimum GPA of 3.20, be in their second year of competition at their current institution, and must be a projected letter winner.

The Clan wrap up the 2014 season this Saturday, as they host Central Washington University at 1:00 p.m. at Burnaby’s, Swangard Stadium.
