High school roundup (AB) [4]: Heading into Thanksgiving weekend, things are heating up

Cochrane (35), Bow Valley (0)
Cochrane shut out Bow Valley this past week and will go on to play George McDougall on the 5th while Bow Valley will face the Chestermere Cowboys also on the 5th.

Hillside (14), Peace River (13)
With a squeaker of a win against Peace River, Hillside will next play Whitecourt on the 5th and Peace River will go on to meet Peace Wapiti.

George McDougall (30), W.H Croxford (8)
George McDougall is having a heck of a season and gets another ‘W’ against Croxford this past weekend. They will play Cochrane coming up for Thanksgiving on the 5th and Croxford will face Bert Church on the 4th.

Robert Thirsk (7), Bishop Carroll (14)
While Robert Thirsk couldn’t pull this one off, they may have better luck for Thanksgiving as they meet Sir Winston Churchill/Bowness on the 6th. Bishop Carroll will will face the Orange also on the 6th. Aberhart will like that.

Queen Elizabeth (0), M.E. Lazerte (51)
With this huge shut out, Lazerte will go into their next matchup with Lillian Osborne on the 6th while QE will face J. Percy Page on the 5th.

Holy Trinity Catholic (41), W.P. Wagner (3)
Wagner goes on for better fortunes with St. Joseph’s this weekend on the 5th and Holy Trinity will play Blessed Oscar Romero on the 6th.

Bishop Grandin (21), Sir Winston Churchill/Bowness (0)
The 1-0 Bishop Grandin Ghosts shut out the 1-2 Churchill/Bowness on the weekend, 21-0.

In the first quarter, they would get a safety followed by and interception returned for a touchdown bringing the score to 8-0. The Ghosts would ad a 41-yard field goal on to that going into the half.

No scoring would occur in the 3rd quarter, but the Ghosts would score another major on the run along with a 37-yard field goal. They would finish with 208 yards of total offense on the night.

SWC/Bowness will face Robert Thirsk on the 6th.

Sexsmith (34), Grand Prairie (12)
After their 34-12 win over GP, Sexsmith will go on to play Charles Spencer on the 5th.

Rundle College (44), Lester B. Pearson (0)
Rundle will take on the Holy Trinity Knights OKO on the 5th while Lester B. Pearson will take on the Beaverbrook Lords this weekend.

Frank Maddock (49), Ponoka (6)
Frank Maddock will carry their momentum to Wetaskiwin Composite this weekend.

J. Percy Page (0), Fort Saskatchewan (30)
J. Percy Page will hope for better luck when they take on Queen Elizabeth this weekend and Ft. Saskatchewan will take on the Beaumont Bandits on the 6th.

Centennial (12), Crescent Heights (6)
Centennial has got the toughest one this next week with the CFC50 St. Francis Browns.While Crescent Heights won’t have it much easier as they will face hot off the press, Bishop O’Byrne after their historical win against Henry Wise Wood last weekend.

Lillian Osborne (0), St. Joseph’s Catholic (43)
Lillian Osborne will next play M.E. Lazerte and St. Joe’s will meet up against W.P. Wagner on the 5th.

Blessed Oscar Romero (0), Beaumont (63)
Blessed Oscar Romero will try and erase this past shut out when they meet Holy Trinity Catholic on the 6th and Beaumont will go up against Ft. Saskatchewan.

St. Joseph Catholic GP (41), Charles Spencer (8)
St. Joseph Catholic – Grand Prairie – will meet High Prairie for some turkey on the 5th and Charles Spencer has got Sexsmith to contend with also on the 5th.

Notre Dame RD (28), Lacombe (39)

Lloydminster (23), Cold Lake (0)

St. Francis Xavier (0), Strathcona (36)
From what we can ascertain from the Lord’s twitter account, the score was 7-0 for the Lords at the end of the first quarter. They would add a 34-yard touchdown pass making it 21-0 going into the half. With a few minutes left in the third quarter, the Lords would score another touchdown and a field goal. Adner St. Hilaire would get his 4th touchdown of the game bringing the score to 34-0 at the end of the third quarter. The final score would be 36-0 for Strathcona.

The Lords will go on to meet Leduc on the 6th and StFX will battle it out with Paul Kane on the 5th.

Eastglen (17), Archbishop O’Leary (72)
The Spartans will take on the St. Albert Skyhawks on the 6th and Eastglen will face Ardrossan on the 5th.

Forest Lawn (0), Western Canada (42)
Forest Lawn will hope to get the next one against E.P. Scarlett.

St. Albert (30), Paul Kane (43)
Paul Kane would be the victors in a 43-30 win over the St. Albert Skyhawks.

In the first quarter, the Skyhawks would be the first on the board with a 55-yard kickoff return by Robin Arguelles and a successful kick by Koen Klinge. However, PK would answer back with an 80-yard bomb and a successful 2-pt conversion. They would also add 51 and 33-yard passing touchdowns finishing the first quarter with a score of 20-7 for PK.

In the second quarter, again St. Albert would be the first to strike with a 33-yard pass from Ewan Vanderheide to De’Amonte Overman and the successful kick by Koen Klinge. But PK wouldn’t be swayed and added 2 more touchdown receptions of 13 and 15 yards.

The score was 36-14 for PK going into halftime.

No points would be scored in the third quarter, but the fourth would see some last action from both teams. PK would add their last major to be answered back by the Skyhawks with a 6-yard pass to Danny Johnson plus the 2-pt conversion and Ewan Vanderhiede would call his own number and run it in for 3-yards plus another 2-pt conversion. However, this would not be enough for St. Albert and Paul Kane would take this one 43-30.

Ewan Vanderheide would complete 11/24 for 142 yards and 2 passing touchdowns as well as 44 yards on 6 carries and 1 rushing touchdown. He would also register 4 tackles, 1 assist, 2 QB sacks, and 2 TFL’s on the night. Teammate Kyle Torok-Both would register 7 tackles and Matthew Swecera would have 7 tackles, 1 TFL, and 1 interception.

PK would finish with 445 yards of total offense to St. Albert’s 373 yards.

St. Albert will face Archbishop O’Leary on the 6th while Paul Kane will take on StFX on the 5th.

Game summary: St. Albert HUDL

Foothills (10), Holy Trinity OKO (14)
Foothills will take on Highwood on the 4th this week, while Holy Trinity has got Rundle College to contend with.

Cochrane (66), Chestermere (7)
The Cobras will match up against George McDougall this week on the 5th and that should be a competitive game. Chestermere will dance with the Bow Valley Bobcats.

Hunting Hills (43), Lindsay Thurber (7)

Hilltop Whitecourt (14), Peace Wapiti (20)
Whitecourt will meet Hillside Valleyview on the 5th and Peace Wapiti take on Peace River also on the 5th.

Wetaskiwin (23), William E. Hay (45)
Wetaskiwin will play Frank Maddock next and WEH will meet Camrose on the 6th.

Ross Sheppard (39), Spruce Grove (12)
With 337 yards of total offense, the Ross Sheppard beat Parkland 35-0 this past weekend.

In the first quarter, Sheppard’s Tryvell Mathias would catch a 37-yard pass from Mark Barber, opening the scoring 7-0. Barber would call his own number and score a 1-yard rushing touchdown. They would get a safety followed by another rushing touchdown by Barber.

Parkland would answer back with a 14-yard passing touchdown, however, could not capitalize on the 2-pt conversion. The score would be 23-6 going into the half.

Sheppard’s Carver Trapp would score 2 more touchdowns, a 14-yard rushing major and an 18-yard reception from Barber. Parkland would put one more up on the board, however, they would not score again and it would end, 39-12 for Ross Sheppard.

Quarterback Mark Barber would complete 7/18 for 134 yards to go along with 2 passing touchdowns and 1 interception as well as 2 rushing touchdowns for 11 yards. Melchis Llunga would have 121 yards on 14 carries while teammate Trapp would go 32 yards on 2 carries and 1 rushing touchdown as well as 53 yards receiving and one touchdown reception. Tryvell Mathias would have 1 touchdown reception and 57 yards on 4 catches.

Defensively for Sheppard, Carlos Phelan would register 6 tackles, 8 assists, and 1 interception, Percy Papin would have 4 tackles, 5 assists, and 1 TFL, Lane Sorenesen would register 7 combined tackles, and Ty Thompson would have 3 combined tackles, 1 sack, and 1 TFL.

Sheppard’s next test will be against Jasper Place on the 6th while Spruce Grove will have a tough one against the Salisbury Sabres also on the 6th.

E.P Scarlett (17), Diefenbaker/Fowler (27)
Diefenbaker/Fowler would come out on top of this one 27-17 against E. P. Scarlett this past weekend.

DF would open the scoring on a 5-yard scamper and would continue in the second quarter with 4 and 25 yard touchdowns to end the first half at 20-0. In the second half, Diefenbaker would again strike first with a 60-yard run. Scarlett would finally wake up and answer back with an 86-yard bomb from Nathan Blayney to Brock Toyne brining the score to 27-7 for DF going into the fourth quarter.

Scarlett would continue to try and catch up with two more safety’s and 1 last 2-yard rushing touchdown by Blayney and a successful 2-pt conversion by Logan Meville. However, they would not be able to overcome DF and would walk away with a 17-27 loss.

Quarterback Nathan Blayney would complete 5/15 for 131 yards passing and 1 passing touchdown to go along with 1 interception. He would also rush for 35 yard on 4 carries with 1 rushing touchdown. Toyne would finish with 124 yards on 23 receptions and 1 touchdown reception.

Diefenbaker will next play Nelson Mandela on the 5th and Scarlett will take on the Forest Lawn Titans.

Nelson Mandela will matchup against Diefenbaker this next weekend and Beaverbrook takes on Lester B. Pearson on the 5th.

According to ABJ Scots twitter, the score was 7-14 for Ardrossan. Going into the half, they would be tied up, 14-14. The Scots would take the lead in the 3rd quarter, 17-14, however, Ardrossan would eventually take over and the final score would be 34-26 for Ardrossan.

Ardrossan will meet the Eastglen Devils on the 5th and ABJ will take on the McNally Tigers also on the 5th.

Leduc (16), McNally (20)
With Leduc being up 10-7 at the half, McNally would take the lead late in the second half and walk away with this win of 20-16.

McNally will face Archbishop Jordan Scots on the 5th and Leduc will meet the Strathcona Lords on the 6th.

Olds (13), Canmore (37)
Old’s will play Drumheller on the 6th.

St. Paul Regional (), Vergreville ()

Vergreville will go on to play J.R. Robson on the 5th.

St. Paul was scheduled to play Edwin Parr, but we have learned the they have folded their program so this game will not be happening.
