Hopes dashed early

OFC: Β Both Jr. Argos teams knocked out of playoffs

Last weekend, both the Junior Varsity and Varsity Toronto Jr. Argonauts were eliminated courtesy of Β the Peterborough Wolverines.

Although the Junior Varsity team was not favored to win, they did put up a valiant effort but was crushed by the Wolverines 44-7.

TheΒ Varsity team did not fare any better as they lost 31-23 to their Peterborough opponents.

After a roller-coaster season, which Β included with the loss of first year JV coach Derek McDonald, the Jr. Argos were unable to overcome the injury bug and muster the energy needed to defeat the Wolverines.

After the game, coach Carlo Trentadue tweeted β€œAmazing season. Hard fought effort until the last whistle. You left everything on the field.”

The Varsity squad had an excellent season going 7-1 and were the favorites to win heading into round one of the OFC playoffs. Earlier in the season, the team defeated Wolverines in convincing fashion. Β However, this past week the Wolverines came back with a vengeance and were able to take down the second seeded Jr. Argos.

All it came down to was a single score; a heartbreaking end.

Despite the loss, Β the Jr. Argos experienced an amazing turnaround this past season. First year varsity coach Carlo Onorati was able to take a team from the OFC basement, and propel them into contention for the top spot.

Next year will be very interesting to see if each team can not only make it to the playoffs, but just how far they can go.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
