Injury riddled

OVFL: A depleted varsity Toronto Thunder was defeated by a vicious Essex Ravens squad over the Canada day weekend, 67-12.

Injuries continue to cripple the varsity Toronto Thunder as the team struggled at key positions. During the week, the Thunder lost their starting left tackle, and then lost their backup during Saturday’s game. Injuries have riddled both offensive and defensive units and thus made it nearly impossible to establish any sort of consistency on the field.

The Ravens took full advantage by bowling over a weakened Thunder defense to gain 442 yards on the ground. The Ravens added 143 yards through the air to bring their total to 585 yards in the lopsided affair. Despite the performance, Thunder defensive back Antoine Lyte-Myers had a stellar game, registering 2 assisted tackles, four solo tackles, a sack, a batted ball, and caught an interception.

As the game wore on, Coach Thomas realized they were in trouble against a formidable Essex squad.

“They seemed bigger, stronger, and faster than we were,” said Thomas.

Backup Thunder quarterback Chris Larsen completed 11 of 24 passes for 89 passing  yards, two passing touchdowns, and threw two interceptions as the Thunder offense managed only 156 yards on the day.

With the loss, the varsity Thunder fall to 2-3 on the season.  The team will attempt to rebound against an undefeated Myers Riders squad this Saturday.
