OFC: Jr. Argos conquer Titans

The Toronto Jr. Argos win convincingly, 20-7, against the Oakville Titans. It was a very hot afternoon which affected both teams greatly.

The first quarter started with a clutch blocked field goal by Jr. Argo’s no. 45 Gord Brown was returned to the Titan 1 yard line by no. 20 Trevel Thomas-Wright. It helped not only set up the first score of the game, but also give the Jr. Argos the momentum to fight through the scorching heat.

Defensive standouts included no. 44 Evan Shergold and no. 90 Dante Dale who played his first game since serving an academic probation suspension.

On the offensive side, Jr. Argo regular standouts Rayshawn Smith, Treyion Charles made several great catches, while running back Isaiah Hibbert dominated the stat sheet with a touchdown catch. Offensive linemen Xavier Samuels, Ian Davis and Rashaun Hill kept the quarterback protected and held back the Titan defense all game.

Head coach Carlo Onorati is happy with the season the Jr. Argos are having thus far. β€œWe are very close to achieving the goal we set out for at the beginning of the season. For a team that had limited success last season, we are happy to be where we are and are hoping to get the bonus of a home playoff game.”

Next Sunday the Jr. Argos will face off against the North Halton Crimson Tide at home. North Halton currently sites in seventh place in the Mike Ramsay Conference in the OFC and are 1-4. In spite of the poor record, Onorati is determined not to underestimate the Tide. β€œThey bring hard-nosed football to the table,” Says Onorati. β€œThis will be our toughest test to date, as we know they will be hungry for a win to keep their playoff hopes alive.”

On another note, defensive standout Trevel Thomas-Wright has been named to the Under 18 Team Ontario who will compete in the 2013 Canada Cup.

The game will be at 5:00PM this Sunday at St. Michael’s College field.

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
