Jr. Argos stay undefeated

The Toronto Jr. Argos are now 2-0 after beating the Peterborough Wolverines 16-3. It was a wild event as heavy rain caused issues for both sides.

The first quarter was controlled by the weather, turning the game into a mere battle for field position. The only scoring was thanks to kicker Adam Sharanewych who put the Jr. Argos up 3-0. Until halftime it was a game of defense.

The second half started much in the same way with the defense controlling the game. The first touchdown was scored by no. 55 John Birnie who made an interception and ran the ball back 30 yards for ‘pick six’. Other defensive standouts included no. 36 Marcus Moore and no. 38 Stephen Adjei-Bediako Ā who had interceptions of their own. Kwadwo Dwobeng and Terrelle Lewis Vu made key plays to keep the Wolverines in their end of the field.

The last five minutes were a little sketchy for the Jr. Argos as they made several mental mistakes, but the defense was able to keep the opposition to a field goal. To put the nail in the coffin it was Treyion Charles who ran 20 yards for a touchdown.

Head coach Carlo Onorati was very happy with the win. ā€œFor a team that heard from all the pundits about how bad we were last year and how we were supposed to be again this year, it feels very good to be 2-0.ā€

This Sunday the Jr. Argos will be facing off against the Huronia Stallions. ā€œThis week we will be facing our toughest challenge of the season in the Stallions,ā€ says Onorati. ā€œWe look forward to embracing it!ā€

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
