The Essex Ravens took the OVFL champion Mississauga Warriors all the way to the finish line this past week, but were not able to finish them off, losing a heart breaker with 12 seconds left.
The Ravens came out and quickly took a 7-0 lead before the Warriors would tie the game up at 7. The Ravens would take a late 14-7 first half lead and go into the half with a 7 point cushion. Mississauga answered quickly in the 3rd quarter to tie the game at 14. Β The Ravens and Warriors kept going back and forth before the Ravens were able to pull ahead and take a 21-14 lead, the Warriors would score soon after and tie the game at 21.
With less than 2 minutes to play, Ravens punter Brandon Speller gave the Ravens a 22-21 lead with a rouge.
The Warriors would then drive down the field and score a touchdown with 12 seconds left to take a 28-22 lead and hand the Ravens a heartbreaking loss.
Offensively the Ravens were led by running backs Chris Tannous, Jalen Jackson, and Matthieu Pickens who combine for 224 yards on 48 carries and 1 touchdown. Quarterback Jake Faubert was 7 of 17 with 103 yards and 2 touchdowns to Brandon Speller.
Defensively the Ravens struggled to slow down the Warriors passing attack. Mississauga quarterback Kevin John was 23 of 24 for 356 yards and two touchdowns.
Next up for the Ravens will be the Cambridge Lions on Saturday June 22nd, kickoff is at 3:30pm.
