The Huronia Stallions Junior Varsity team was defeated 51-7 in Hamilton by the Burlington Stampeders in the OFC Championship game.

The game played in front of a large crowd at McMaster University’s Ron Joyce Stadium was played in extremely hot and humid conditions with several delays due to lightning strikes. The undefeated Burlington squad was able to control the game due to the high degree of effectiveness demonstrated by their offensive line. The superb run blocking helped Running Back Nathan Langley accrue 197 yards on 20 carries.

Overall, the Stamps rushing attack racked up 341 yards and five rushing touchdowns. The Stallions offence did a credible job moving the ball against a stout Burlington defence, but were undone by several dropped passes, missed assignments and multiple stops in short yardage situations on second down. This was the difference in the ball game as Burlington did not make the same mistakes and was able to convert in several short yardage situations.

The top offensive player for the Stallions was Wide Receiver Jaylen Cooper who had nine receptions for 140 yards and a touchdown. The leading Stallions defender was Linebacker Owen Macleod who had five solo tackles and one assist.

The Stallions project to have solid Varsity and Junior Varsity squads next season with a chance to capture even more Conference championship banners with the hope of securing the team’s first League title since 2005.

In wrapping up another successful season, the team’s 24th, Head Coach Martino DiSabatino stated that “the Stallions would like to thank all the local media and fans for all their support and encouragement” He then exclaimed the team’s rallying cry, “one goes, we all go!”

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
