OFC:  Gladiator teams win key games on the road

With two games remaining in regular season, the varsity Sudbury Gladiators gained an important win this past weekend in Ontario Football Conference (OFC).

Austin Kirkey and Zach Roque each scored two majors as the Gladiators crushed the Clarington Knights 51-6.

With this victory, the Gladiators now have a 4-2 record in the league’s Mike Ramsay Conference, trailing the Huronia Stallions (5-0) and Toronto Jr. Argos (5-1) only by two single points. Sitting back of the Gladiators are the Peterborough Wolverines and Nipissing Wild with 3-3 records.

Joe Jelen caught an interception and ran it into the end zone while Aaron Campbell and Louis Chartrand each added majors in the victory.

Defensively, the Gladiators registered three picks in the game.

The Gladiators will try to make a move in the standings when they host the Oakville Titans at James Jerome Stadium this upcoming Saturday.  Kickoff is 4:00pm.

As for the junior varsity Gladiators, the team won their second straight game this past weekend, defeated the Clarington Knights 35-13.

Offensively, Josh Walker scored two touchdowns while Thomas Rideout, Jorcan Lacelle and Chris Leon found the end zone once.

At halftime, the Knights led 8-6; however, the team was not able to maintain the lead.

This victory gives the Gladiators an even 3-3 record on the season.  The team will host the Oakville Titans for their next game on Saturday at James Jerome Sports Complex.  Game time is 1:00pm.
