Lakeshore Football Officials Association (LFOA) is looking for officials!

The Burlington based Lakeshore Football Officials Association (LFOA) was established in 1963 and the mission of the organization is to promote football officiating and develop football officials so they can contribute to the overall improvement of the game. The LFOA is proudly the largest football officials’ association in Canada and currently has 130 active officials.

Members of the LFOA officiate high school football in the regions of Halton, Peel, Niagara and all minor football in Mississauga, and the regions of Halton and Niagara. The LFOA offers Football Canada Certification Programs, rules and positioning clinics, and a personal mentoring program to assist in the development of all officials. Those who advance may have the opportunity to officiate in such leagues as the Ontario Provincial Football League, the Ontario Football Conference, the Northern Football Conference, the Canadian Junior Football League, Ontario University Football and the Canadian Football League.

The LFOA officiating roster includes several current and former officials from the Canadian Football League and USport as OUA officials. The LFOA also has a number of officials who work in a supervisory capacity at both those levels. The LFOA officials have worked numerous USport bowl games, Vanier Cups, CFL playoff games and Grey Cups and assist in the development programs that are offered and most still work minor and high school football games.

Individuals, male and female, 16 years of age and older who wish to become LFOA football officials must complete a Level 1 Football Canada Officials’ Certification Program prior to taking the field to officiate. This certification program is usually conducted every spring. First year officials can expect to participate in stick crew assignments throughout the summer and officiated minor football and some high school football in the fall.

Any person who has an interest in becoming a member of the LFOA or who would like further information can contact the association by e-mail at [email protected].
