Manalo leads Burlington JV Stamps to lopsided win

Myles Manalo scored three touchdowns and Nick Casola added two more to lead the Burlington junior varsity Stampeders to their latest Ontario Football Conference win last weekend.

The Stamps whipped the Guelph Gryphons 64-0.

Other touchdowns went to Noah Griffith, Dominic Mandalfino, Alex Sutcliffe and Dom Ciraco. Tyler Roy added two points when he tackled a Guelph player in the endzone for a safety, and Nick Casola converted eight of the nine TDs and had eight receptions for 80 yards.

Mandalfino finished with 154 yards rushing, quarterback Clarke McCallum was seven-for-nine passing for 181 yards and Alex Petty passed for 98 yards when he had the quarterbacking duties.

In addition to Roy’s eight-tackle, two-point safety effort, the defence featured a nine-tackle performance from Jack Miller. A. J. Allen and Jake Dorio had seven each.

Peewee

In a battle for first place on the last weekend of the regular season, the Stampeders fell to Chatham-Kent Cougars 37-6.

Despite the loss, the Stampeders showed some excellent play, with Sito Berrio rushing for 85 yards, scoring the only Burlington touchdown.

Nick Gilbert (five tackles, three for losses and a quarterback sack), Berrio (four tackles, three assists, fumble recovery) and Luke DeGannes and Quentin Reid (three tackles each) led the defence.

The Stampeders finished the regular season in second place.

Bantam

A 70-0 win over the Oakville Titans upped the Stampeders’ record to 7-0 in OFC play in Oakville last Sunday.

Quarterback Kurtis Rourke completed 11 of 15 passes, hitting seven different targets for 263 yards and four touchdowns. Two of the TDs went to Adam Kranz, with Evan Vathy and Nathan Langley adding one each.

Jaden Bailey carried the ball four times and gathered 108 yards, scoring three touchdowns to lead the ground attack.

Β Langley, Josh Munoz and Dalton James also ran for TDs, with James adding 10 more points on as many convert attempts.

Stamps’ defence held the Titans to 105 total yards. Andrew Spelman and Jake Mitchell both picked off enemy passes and Isiah Reed and Zac Ihaaz had 5.5 tackles each. De-Andre Anderson recorded four more.

The Stamps are in Brantford Sunday, July 13 to face the Bison.
