NCAFA All Star Games: West comes out on top in peewee, bantam & midget

The National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) completed its last major activity for 2013 this past weekend as they featured their All-Star games for the Peewee, Bantam and Midget levels.

Great work again by Frank de Repentigny of the Cumberland Panthers in coordinating the event and the dealing with the challenge of collecting and contacting selected players and removing the burden from coaches.  A special thanks to Rachel Armstrong, John Smith and the Bel-Air Lions for running the canteen and 50/50 events – all of which added to the positive atmosphere of the day.

The games were well played as many remarked on the improvement in play observed through Championship Week and All Star Week events.

Here are the results of the three All Star games to finish the 2013 NCAFA season.

The East came back with an Interception by Lake Kort-Moore, but were not successful in their push to the goal line.  West team running-back JP Ciminkinda scored a Touchdown, coupled with Owen Clements two PAT’s, and quarterback Tyler Rehman’s Rouge, left the West team at 15 – 0 by half-time.

The East defense shutdown any activity in the third quarter, with multiple tackles by Nathan Amesbury and Matthew Byrne. The West fought hard in the fourth quarter, with JP Ciminkinda shaking off two tackles, and achieving a Touchdown. Running-back Honoreal Illoki of the West went on to achieve the final Touchdown of the game.

Team West defeated Team East 27-14 on the strength of two rushing TDs from RB Joey McKiernan (Riders), who was named Game MVP. QB Dimitri Morand (Riders) rushed for a single TD, earning him Top Offensive Player honours for Team West.  DB Logan Souliere (Riders) also scored on a bizarre play when he recovered a fumbled kickoff return in the endzone for a Team West TD. RBs Patrick Santos (Lions), Steven Hanzidiakou (Warriors) and Duncan Jarmyn (Redskins) all made solid contributions on the ground in a game where weather conditions made it very difficult to pass the ball.

Defensively, Team West was led by Top Defensive Player LB Abed Hamidi (Knights), who was all over the field making several tackles. DB Andrew Gelineau (Redskins) also had a strong performance and snagged an interception.  Defensive Linemen Brandon “Moose” Whiteman (Knights), Carter Wilson (Riders) and Jared Napior (Redskins) provided a forceful pass rush and were strong against the run.

Midget

West won 19-13

Game MVP- Matt Duffy QB Kanata

Defence MVP- Nicholas Goudie LB Bel-Air

Offence MVP- Jahdel Ferron RB Nepean
