Despite rain, cold temperatures, and a field covered in snow on Sunday, last weekβs NCAFA finals, hosted by the North Gloucester Giants at the Nepean Sportsplex, were a huge hit!Β Fans, most dressed up in their teamβs colours, packed the stands to cheer on finalists in each of the 13 championship games.
TYKE (Under 11)
The South Ottawa Mustangs won the Tyke C championship with a 38-31 win over Kanata.Β Mustangsβ E.J. Carreon rushed for two TDβs and passed to Matthew Gravel for another.Β Precieux King had some huge tackles while Kevin Nsabua returned the opening kick off for a TD and rushed for 2 more and was named MVP for his team.Β With 3 minutes remaining, Kanataβs Shabach Kerr made it close with an unbelievable 40 yard touchdown, which saw him drag several Mustangs players into the end zone with him.Β Connor Ogilvie was named Knightsβ MVP.

Bell Warriors defeated Gatineau 24-16 to win the βAβ Cup.Β Josh Streng had 100+ yard and a TD.Β Warriors MVP Andrew Fullerton also found the end zone while Shayne Forsyth had a 40 yard punt return.Β Great defense from Logan Stratham, Steven Schwartz and Jake Papalia sealed the victory.
The Cumberland Panthers defeated Brockville 32-17 to win the βBβ cup.Β Game reports were not received for this game.
MOSQUITO (Under 13)
The North Gloucester Giants put an exclamation point on their perfect season with a win 35-6 win over the Myers Riders to win the βAβ cup.Β Team MVP Jonathan Sutherland ran for 3 TDβs and threw for another to Luiji Vilain.Β Vilain also was perfect on all converts and a 35 yard field goal.Β Devon Gall and the offensive line were relentless, as was the defense, led by Ryan Kabuya, Maroon Beaino, Jacob Falsetto, Mike Lamadeleine and Nick Dubeau.Β Myersβ only scoring came on the opening kick off.
The South Gloucester Raiders won βCβ with a 38-6 win over The Kanata Knights who controlled the ball most of the time, but were shut down by the Raidersβ defense.Β Raiders QB John Balzanello threw for over 150 yards and 2 TDβs and rushed over 120 yards, scoring another two on the ground.
Bell Warriors blanked The Nepean Redskins 20-0 to win the βBβ cup for the 3rd year in a row.Β Dilan Parry (2), and Jack Rabb scored for Bell.Β QB Max Assaly led the team all day, while Craig Dawe had 184 yards rushing and was named the teamβs MVP.Β Andrew Beattie had a convert and was a standout on defense.
PEE WEE (Under 15)
Nepean Redskinβs defense, led by Akash Bakshi, Sasha Jammes, and Connor Ayre created several turnovers, but the offence could not capitalize as Myers Riders won the βBβ cup with a 24-0 win.Β Bakshi and Ayre will play in this weekendβs all star game.Β Redskinsβ Matthew Melendez was an offensive standout, but left the game with an injury.Β He along with Eddy Cenatus were also voted onto the All Star game.
The Riders will represent NCAFA at this year’s T. Litzen bowl in Toronto.
After a 20 year drought, the Orleans Bengals won the βAβ cup with a 34-26 win over the Bell Warriors!Β Bellβs Jesse Skucas scored on their first possession with a 67 yard kick off return.Β Bengals QB Michael OβConnor, who had 3 TDβs and rushed for over 180 yards, was named game MVP.Β Rashari Sommerville Henry had 150+ yards rushing and 2 TDβs.Β Bengalsβ defense held Bell to just 6 points in the second half, led by Cody Barry and Ben David.Β Bell QB Quinn Stewart, threw a 35 yard pass to Malcolm Turgeon, and Steven Hanzidiakou followed up with a 55 yard run as time ran out.Β Charlie Keenan was named MVP for Bell, and had 150+ yards rushing and a TD.
The Cumberland Panthers won the βCβ cup beating the North Gloucester Giants 31-14.Β No game report was received.
BANTAM (Under 17)
Myers Riders defeated the previously unbeaten Kanata Knights 7-0 to win the A-Cup!Β QB Costa Jones scored the only points in the game early in the 2nd on a 3 yard bootleg set up by Shayne Cowan-Cholette who had an interception deep in Knightsβ territory.Β Riders RB Kory Morgan rushed for more than 100 yards, while Harley Eastman (interception), Ty Elliott, Kevin Laporte, Cameron Emond and Reily Lefort all had great games on defense.
In B-Cup action, The Nepean Redskins blanked defending champion Bell Warriors 40-0 to win the Chorney Cup.Β Andrew Nolan (2) and Sebastian Silva had interceptions for the Redskins.Β Nick Battista forced and recovered a fumble, and Tristan Nault stripped a ball and converted it into a 50 yard touchdown.Β Nepeanβs offensive line, led by Haris Hadzireisic and Cameron Biron helped generate 5 rushing touchdowns for Graham Smyth (3), Jordan Finn and Tam Nguyen.Β Brandon Hinton was named Warriors MVP.
South Gloucester Raiders won the C-Cup beating Bel-Air 34-21.Β No report was received for this game.
MIDGET (Under 20)
The head referee called it one of the best games heβs ever refereed.Β The Nepean Redskins, with just 23 players on their roster, defeated The Bel-Air Norsemen 14-7 in a huge defensive battle.Β Norsmenβs defense was led by LB Zack Hamilton (who scored Bel-Airβs only points) and was named Defensive MVP.Β FS Matt Gourgon had two interceptions.Β Redskinsβ standout Ryan Weeks was named his teamβs MVP.
