NCAFA (Ottawa): Week 9 recap (Tyke to Bantam)

The National Capital Amateur Football Association (NCAFA) completed its Quarter Finals for Tyke to Bantam and its Midget regular season.  Semi Finals are this coming weekend and will prove to provide some exciting local football as teams battle it out for spots in the Finals.

Tyke
Shane Cabral and Xzaivious Vaillancourt led the defense for the Gloucester South Raiders. On offense Jack Baird, Justin Roy, Jacob Dugas, Jett Miller and Bradly Peters scored the majors with Johnny Aoude and Jordan Donston playing major roles as well for the 34-6 win over the West Carleton Wolverines.
It was a battlefield in West Carleton today where the East Ottawa Generals edged the Wolverines 32-30 in their Quarter Finals match up. Emilie Holmes and Quinn Gilchrist were both instrumental for the Generals defense halting the Wolverines attack and turning the ball over on downs.

Offensive lineman Mathieu Holmes and TB Ben Kuntz had some key blocks for RB Mark Webb who led the Generals in TD’s. Both teams traded TD’s back and forth until the Wolverines missed a 2 point conversion with 54 seconds remaining in the game which sealed the win for the Generals.
The Myers Riders survived an early touchdown to beat the South Ottawa Mustangs 46-12. Offense was lead by Zachary Thompson, Mickael Roy and Antonio Corsi. Defense was lead by Logan McGrath and Matteo Milito and Parker Lynds.
The Bel-Air Lions began their playoffs with the return of Shawn Lukusa to the line-up and he promptly added several touchdowns in a 38-19 win over the Cornwall Wildcats. Bryce Russell paced the lions with a couple touchdowns and converts while Nicky Clostre finished another run for a score on a convert. The defence was able to contain the Wildcats thanks to strong efforts from Tyler Clostre, Logan Carty, and Sean Harper who controlled the field for the Lions.
Mosquito
In Gilchrist Cup Quarter-final action the West Carleton Wolverines defeated a tough Orleans Bengals squad 53-38.Hayden Tripp, Justin Yee and Elliott Cooke all had big days on offense for the Wolverines. The Wolverine defence started slowly but shut down the Bengals from the middle of 3rd quarter to the end of the game. Jose Rodriquez, Anesu Latmore and Jack Hamilton led the defensive effort.
The Kanata Knights beat the East Ottawa Generals 48-12.  The combination of AJ Thomas to Quinn Murphy provided both TD’s for the Generals with Murphy totaling over 150 yards receiving.  Sebastien Latour Smith had a strong game on defense before being knocked out of the game along with David Andre.
The Cumberland Panthers fought hard for their first touchdown by Jeremy Jean-Noel during 2nd quarter action against the Bell Warriors.

Although the Panthers were up by 8-0 starting the 2nd half, the Warriors pushed and tested the Panther defense right down to the last minute of play, until Panther defence Yannick Jerome-Lemieux intercepted the ball and ran for a touchdown, sealing the game with a final score of 14-0.
Peewee
The Bel-Air Lions kicked off their post-season with a strong performance in a 24-0 win over the Orleans Bengals. Though the Bengals strong running game posed some problems but the defence stood strong making numerous stops thanks to Alex Childs and Liam Paquette while Devin Styles scored after picking off a pass and taking it all the way in for a touchdown. The Lions offence moved the ball well thanks to a strong ground game established by Patrick Santos and rushing scores by Jean-Paul Cimankinda and Eugene Kanku.
Bantam
The Bel-Air Lions came out on top of the East Ottawa Generals with a score of 22-9 in a very close game.  Despite a stellar performance by the defence the Generals fell a little short, however, great plays by the defence led to all the points scored for the Generals. After a blocked punt it was returned for a TD by Ricardo Desir. Patrick Dunlop and Ridj Mycout chipped in for a couple of interceptions. Offence led by Andre Isabelle at QB looked good at times, however, a few miscues at inopportune times left them a little short on points. Lots of heart shown this week in the play of all the players.
Keenan Tanti and Marco Trunzo led the Myers Riders with 2 TDs apiece, while Maxime Chainey, Luke Rawling, Sean Edgecombe and Reed Adams added single TDs in the Riders’ 52-0 victory over the Cornwall Wildcats. Riders QB Dimitri Morand passed for 6 TDs, while LB Joseph Donnelly had an interception and anchored the defence in the shutout victory.
