NCAFA: Week one sees 60 teams from Tyke to Midget open season

Another fantastic season of NCAFA football is now underway featuring 60 teams from Tyke (U10) to Midget (U20).

TYKE (Under 10)

The Bel Air Lions got off to a quick start with a TD from Shawn Lukusa.  Rookies Jeremy Barkley and Logan Carty had strong debuts but the Brockville Buccaneers rallied from behind with 3 unanswered TD from Nathan Coleman, Chase DeVries and Aidan Bailey to win 18-6.

In his first game ever, Harold Songmene dominated rushing for 4 TD’s, 137 yards on 10 carries as his Orleans Bengals beat the Giants 44-0.

Defending A Cup champion Bell Warriors, lead by Jake Miles who tossed 4 TD passes, beat West Carleton 40-7.  Bell’s Nolan Harris was solid, while Logan Statham, Justin Carreau and Brady Brohman lead the defense.  Tristan Ready returned a kick-off 50 yards for the only West Carleton TD in the game.  Teammate Bailey Andrews had six solo tackles.

Down by 30 at the half, Cole Minoli lead the Mustangs defense and slowed a potent Vikings team.  Precieux King scored the 6 for Canterbury on a 45 yard run.

Haven Holder scored the opening TD on a 15 yard pass from QB Ryan Licandro as the Redskins beat Myers Riders 24-16.  Jahmil Anderson had 2 running TD’s for Nepean with Tyler Warren, Josh McNair, Jeremie  Fredette-Roy, Matthew Spinella and Jack Gillis all having game saving tackles sacks and/or fumble recoveries.

MOSQUITO (Under 12)

The Cumberland Panthers defense allowed only one first down the entire game against the Gloucester South Raiders with Bryson Michel going 6 for 6 on extra points.

Cameron Wyers scored for the Redskins while teammate Nathan Keeler had a great tackle in their 42-6 victory over the Raiders.

Bell pulled out a thrilling 14-8 victory over the West Carleton Wolverine’s with an electrifying 80 yard run by RB Josh Streng on the last play of the game! FB Noah Hemming and QB Tyler Brohman (1 TD) were offensive standouts while Sam Roberts lead the defense.  For West Carleton, Owen Clement rushed over 75 yards, David Morton made 4 catches for 110 yards, Patrick Duffy threw 30 yards for the game tying TD with 1 minute left and Brayden Lassenba was in on 8 tackles and Cole Nichols had 5.

In the cold and rain, behind a strong O-line, Jesse Luekta ran for 3 TD’s in the Mustangs’ 33-12 win over Cornwall while the defense put in a strong performance erasing several fumbles.

Bel Air shut out Brockville. Connor Williams was a force on defense.  Liam Paquette had several dazzling punt returns and JP Ciminkinda scored on multiple long runs.

PEE WEE (Under 14)

The Bell Warriors blanked West Carleton 50-0.  Tremayne Blackbun, Andrew
Beattie and Haua Hauthanglian led the defense while both Steven Hanzidiakou and Joshua Nwaelleh scored TD’s each and FB Craig Dawe closed out the scoring.

Kanata Knights defeated Bel Air 34-0.  Veteran running back Joey McKiernan led the team with three touchdowns.

The Mustangs defense kept the Gatineau Vikings’ running game to a minimum while tailback Neville Gallimore scored 4 touchdowns and ran for over 200 yards.  Simon St-Laurent and Adam Malekos each added touchdowns, and Trysson Miner-McNeil’s interception prevented a Vikings comeback.

Despite strong performances from Marcus Stukel, Conor Kealey, Chris Provost, Aiden Magee and QB Devon Mulready, Bel Air, lost to the Kanata Knights.

BANTAM (Under 16)

Myers Riders got past Nepean 21-16.  Riders scored a TD on a punt return from Justin Butler and 2 passing TDs from QB Costa Jones to WR Max Chainey.  On defense, Kyrique Fletcher had 3 sacks, while Jahlen Ritchie (2), Ty Elliott, Kevin Laporte, Jocelyn Simard, Eden Mansour & Cam Martin all had interceptions.

In a hard fought battle vs. Mother Nature and the West Carleton Wolverines, The Bell Warriors picked up a 26-18 win.  Charlie Keenan, Nate McClausland, Kaill Barrie (2) and Malcom Turgeon all found the end zone while William Vail and Filip Buljan held down the fort on defense.  Wolverines QB Matt Duffy rushed for 60 yards and threw for over 75 while RB Jaeger Prot rushed for over 100 yards and had a TD.

In a 28-17 win over rival Cumberland, The Raiders’ Tunde Adeleke scored 3 long touchdowns including a 65 yard punt return.  Michael Bolzanello and Justin Poitras shared the QB duties, each throwing for TDs, Joey Wrinn found the end zone with an 86 yard reception with less than a minute remaining.  Mpamba Nzowa and Will Karam were standouts on defense, with Terry Lormil and Jacob Pierscianowski getting interceptions.

Adam Awada and David D’Amario led the blocking for Yan Batubenga as the Lions won 21-0. Dylan Armstrong and David Mulder were keys in securing the shutout.

MIDGET (Under 20)

After a 3 year hiatus, Kanata returned to Midget with long time coach Geoff Graham back at the helm.  Zach Millar scored on a QB keep for Kanata who lost a close battle with the Dukes, 13-6.

kick recovery by Dem Ogunyinka leading to another Redskins touchdown, allowed The Redskins to blank Bel Air 20-0.  Jonathan Ciminkinda and Alex Potvin were workhorses for the Norsemen on offence, while Anthony Moussignac, Darragh Magee, and Scott Ferris turned in good efforts on defence.
