Week 4 FNL Wrap UpĀ

Ā Lights, camera, action! It was a big night for NXL LVL FNL as Maritime Athletic Profiles were in attendance to film some of theĀ fast-pacedĀ action on Friday night.Ā There were some high scoring affairs and plenty of spectacular playsĀ made by some of the best football players this province has to offer.Ā

Player of the Week (Varsity Division)Ā

21ā€™ WR/DB Naijun David of Dartmouth High, put on a show at both ends of the field on Friday night. David was all over the field,Ā as he secured 3 touchdown passes and snagged 4 interceptions to help secure the win for the newly named Blackout, who formally went by The Black Flags.Ā

Player of the Week (Junior Varsity Division)Ā

24ā€™ QB Gian AbdiĀ continued with hisĀ consistentĀ playĀ again on Friday night by throwing for whopping 6 touchdowns. Abdi has been performing like this all year and was due for a player of the week award. Abdi is cool under pressure and his tremendous accuracy sets him apart from other quarterbacks. Abdi will be a QB to watch in the future.Ā

Varsity Round UpĀ

The first game of the night featured Big Truss taking on the Plum Squad. This was a pure shootout in every sense as both teams went up and down the field repeatedly. One of the more important plays of the game was when 21ā€™ QB Luke Bezanson connected with 23ā€™ WR Nate Slawter on a hail mary to end the first half. Big Truss started to pull away in the second half with an amazing on hand touchdown catch from 22ā€™ WR Juwan Steele and a pick six by 21ā€™ WR/DB Connor McCormick sealedĀ the dealĀ 59-45.Ā Ā

Ā The second game of the night featured the Young Lions taking on the Knights. The Knights came in confident after securing their first win last week and it showed. The Knights hung in tough with the talented Young Lions group, as 23ā€™ WR Daniel Matheson completely ran circles around the Lions defense. Matheson scored 3 touchdowns on theĀ night butĀ was matched by 21ā€™ WR/DB Austin Walker who also hauled in 3 scores for the Lions; ultimately leading them to the 44-31 win.Ā

Third up was the battle between the CEC High School representatives;Ā The Pumpkin Heads and The Spider Pigs. The Pumpkin Heads fought hard throughout the game, going score for score with the Spider Pigs, for most of the first half. The Pumpkin Heads, who are still looking for their first win, were led by the 3-touchdown performance of 21ā€™ WR Brenton Phillips. The Spider Pigs ended up being too much to handle,Ā as the dynamic duo of 21ā€™ athletes Kye Swansburg and Tyler Macdonald accounted for 5 touchdowns. The Spider Pigs took the game 66-41.Ā Ā

Next up was Blackout versus Flight. The game was set to be a high scoring affair with all the top talent on the field. Blackout held up their end of the bargain by putting another 60 points and showed theyĀ canĀ alsoĀ play some defense by ball hawking 6 interceptionsĀ in total. 21ā€™ WR/DB Naijun David was the star of theĀ show, with his 3 touchdown, 4 interception performance. 21ā€™ QB Will Chisholm is pulling away in the touchdown passing leaderboardĀ afterĀ throwing for another 9 scores this week. 21ā€™ RB/DB Cameron Hunt and 23ā€™ WR Jonathan Seeton did their best to keep Flight in the game, but it was not enough asĀ theyĀ fell to Blackout 60-27.Ā

Ā The last game of the night was between the up and down Gators and the upstart Shortyā€™s. The Gators had 23ā€™ QB Dylan Clarke back in the fold and he did not miss a beat,Ā throwing 6 touchdown passes to several different receivers;Ā including 24ā€™ RB Malik Tembo. The Shortyā€™sĀ were inĀ the gameĀ and launchedĀ a furious comeback in the last 5 minutesĀ but could not put enough points up on the board. The Gators secured the win 45-34.Ā

Ā Junior Varsity Round UpĀ

The Late Arrivals took on the Misfits in a game that most would have predicted as being a close affair. The Late Arrivals took early control of the game and did not look back; defeating The Misfits 52-7. It looks like The Late Arrivals a hitting their stride and are aiming to contend for the Junior Varsity crown. 25ā€™ QB Payton Flint tossed dimes all over the field on Friday night;Ā connecting with his receivers for 4 touchdowns.Ā Ā

No Excuses continued with their dominant performances after shutting out the Hawks 39-0. No Excuses have not given up a touchdown on defense this season and at the present timeĀ theyĀ appear to be unstoppable. 24ā€™ QB Gian Abdi spread the ball around beautifully on Friday night connecting with several different receivers for scores. 24ā€™ WRā€™s Dez Crawford and Michael Henneberry reaped the benefits of Abdiā€™s big night, as they accounted for 5 of the QBā€™s touchdown passes.Ā

Chicks with Picks have quietly gone undefeated this season and they kept theirĀ winning streak going on Friday night, when they took down the Wolverines in a defensive affair 13-6.Ā Chicks with PicksĀ have been playing stellar defense all year and have only given up 1 touchdown in the 3 games. Brooklyn McCormick was the star for the Chicks with Picks squad, as she accounted for their 2 scores.Ā Ā

The Eagles took on the Badgers in the last game of the night. The Eagles were led by 25ā€™ QB Landon Tomlin, who has now led the league 2 weeks in a row in touchdown passes. Tomlin tossed another 6 dimes on Friday night and connected with 25ā€™ WR Josiah BrownĀ forĀ 3 of those scores. The Badgers continue to struggle scoring, but they are an enthusiastic squad that brings one hundred percent effortĀ everyĀ week.Ā

Advocating for football prospects one story at a time.
