Here is a Week 10 game recap:

Halifax Seahawks 13, Metro Mustangs 2:

Last Friday evening at Saint Mary’s University Huskies Stadium, the Halifax Seahawks wrote a great ending to their season as they handed the league leading Metro Mustangs their second loss in three weeks.  The Seahawks won the game 13-2.

Offensively for the Seahawks, receivers Ian Farrell and Andray Brady caught touchdown receptions.  Farrell’s catch was 50 yards while Brady’s was 45 yards.  Ryan Kublek amassed 180 all-purpose yards while running back Adrien Mopoho had 100 rushing yards in the game.  Quarterback Byron Kavanagh had five completions in 10 attempts for 120 passing yards and one passing touchdown while pivot David Luke had four completions in eight attempts for 130 passing yards and one touchdown.

“I was very impressed by our offensive line, they really battled hard all game,” comments Seahawks co-head coach of the unit.  “Our offense ran the ball well and when we needed it most, made some key passing plays for touchdowns.”

With this win, the Seahawks’ final season record is 5-3 (third place).  In spite of the loss, the Mustangs will end the regular season at the top of the standings with a 6-2 record.

The injury bug seemed to have been a key reason why the Mustangs struggled throughout the game.

“We were impacted with injuries coming into the game with our two starting running backs:  Dustin Brogaard and Drew Alexander and starting quarterback Sean Muir was questionable,” explains Mustangs head coach Greg Bayne.  “This caused us to play players on both sides of the ball which is never ideal especially running the football.”

“Injuries continued during the game and put us in a position go deep into our bench and play players in positions that they were not used to playing.”

Dustin Buchanan filled in as pivot for Muir and had three completions in nine attempts for 29 yards while he also had one seven yard carry.  As a defensive end, Buchanan also registered a tackle.  Muir had three completions on 10 attempts for 12 yards in the game.

Another player substitution was at the running back position as Mert Mensah had 11 carries for 60 yards. Jay Hachey switched positions and played fullback/offensive line and was effective throughout the game.   His stats were five carries for 48 yards, one defensive sack and a tackle.

Statistics for other players on the Mustangs included Taylor MacDonald (running back/linebacker) had 13 carries for 24 yards while collecting five tackles, James Pelley (running back/linebacker) with four carries for 14 yards in addition to six tackles, two sacks, a fumble recovery and a 60 yard run, Alex Bayne (running back/defensive back) with four receptions for 30 yards and one carry for three yards while racking up eight tackles, Ryan Keays with two receptions for 11 yards and two carries for nine yards while registering two tackles.

Defensively, Malcolm Hyde (defensive end) had three tackles, two sacks, two fumble recoveries and a 60 yard fumble recovery run while Matt Bayne (defensive back/linebacker) racked up twelve tackles in the game.  Moreover, Matt Zwicker (defensive tackle/guard) and Andre Martell (defensive tackle) each had three tackles apiece while Trevor Gallant (defensive back) has three tackles and an interception.  Trevor Howse (defensive tackle/guard), Ken Findlay (defensive back), Jesse Boudreau (linebacker) and Jake Saunders (defensive back) all chipped in with two tackles each.

The Seahawks defensive unit was exceptional and overall it was a hard fought win over the Mustangs.

“Our defense was fantastic as they didn’t give up any points, forced turnovers, and stopped several third downs,” says the Seahawks co-head coach.  “Our defense led by Shaun Robinson, Spencer Bennett and Liam Connell set the tone for our entire team.”

“We battled hard all game and got the win against the number one team.”

Timberlea Renegades 1, Dartmouth Destroyers 0 (FORFEIT):

Due to the fact the Dartmouth Destroyers could not field a team; the Timberlea Renegades were awarded the win by forfeit.  As a result, the Renegades finish out the regular season with a 6-2 record while the Destroyers end up with a winless record at 0-8.
