OFC: Rourke extends family gridiron tradition

 

Kurtis Rourke began playing flag football at the age of five with Burlington Minor Football.  The following year, he played tackle in the Fall program.

For the last seven years, Rourke has been with the Burlington Stampeders of the Ontario Football Conference (OFC).  Following in brother Nathan’s footsteps, Kurtis has been the starting quarterback for past six seasons.

As the junior varsity Stampeders works their way through an undefeated season, Rourke has seven touchdown passes with a 72 percent completion rate.

For his part, Rourke works hard on and off the field fine-tuning his skills through regular participation in SST Camps.

Calm, focused and approachable, Rourke is a leader that is respected by his teammates both on and off the field.  Additionally, Rourke strongly feels that football is a team sport.

The sport means something special for Rourke.

“Football brings me away from everything else that is happening in life,” said Rourke, who also plays for his high school team at Holy Trinity.

Rourke comes from a family that has been dedicated to volunteering including taking states and working sticks.  Moreover, they know what it takes for a program to continually achieve success.  Rourke’s father Larry has been a coach for many years, successfully leading the flag team to many victories.
