OFC: Toronto Junior Argonauts re-organize coaching staff at all levels

The Toronto Jr. Argonauts of the Ontario Football League (OFC) are busy preparing for the 2013 season with a few coaching changes at their Varsity, Junior Varsity and Bantam levels.

The Bantam head coach Dan Grossi has stepped down and will be replaced by former Jr. Argos VP of Field Operations, Paul Forbes. Forbes is one of the best all time coaches in Ontario high school history, and the organization is very excited to welcome such a distinguished coach to help with not only the Bantam squad, but assist  the other levels as well. Alongside coach Forbes will be former Jr. Argos Varsity head coach Frank Trentadue. Trentadue has been the head coach of the Varsity team for a few seasons now, along with being the head coach of the St. Michael’s Kerry Blues. Both Forbes and Trentadue are very happy with the switch to the younger age group and are, “excited about getting back to the grassroots” of football.

The Junior Varsity team will be seeing coaching changes of their own. Former Bantam Jr. Argos offensive coordinator and peewee head coach Derek MacDonald will be taking over for former head coach Carlo Onorati. McDonald will be assisted by Carlo Trentadue who was the defensive coordinator of the Varsity squad last season. Carlo Onorati says that the organization, “is excited to have these young coaches take an increased role in our program.” The J.V. Jr. Argos had the best results of last season out of the three teams earning a third place finish in the OFC J.V. division.

Finally, the Jr. Argo Varsity team is happy to have former J.V. coaches Carlo Onorati and Jansen Shrubb make the transition up to the older age group. As mentioned earlier, Onorati and Shrubb had a very successful year with the J.V. squad after the team made the way all the way to the semi-finals where they were defeated by the OFC Champions, Burlington Stampeders.  After three years at the J.V. level, the two are, “looking forward to the challenge”. The two are hoping to carry much of their J.V. success to the Varsity level, but will have a huge challenge ahead of them as the OFC is home to some of the best Varsity football teams in Ontario.

The Jr. Argos are excited for the 2013 season and want you to be a part of it. Those who are interested can find registration information and contact details at their website www.juniorargonauts.ca.
